That's a pretty high standard for the HOF. In the last 30 years the only player that I specifically went to the ballpark to see him play was Barry Bonds. Is he the only legit hall of famer in the last 30 years?

Heck, given the current selection standards I think it's doubtful he'll ever get in.

Adrian Beltre is one of the best 3Bs in history. If you blend in with him, you're an automatic HOFer. Aramis Ramirez blends in with neither one of them. Nice bat, but lacking everything else.

Beltre will probably become a first ballot HOF inductee one year from now.

I'm not a big WAR guy, but he has 28 D War and sits in the same area as catchers like Molina and Gary Carter in D WAR

Beltre also lost an MVP to Bonds and his steroid cream back in 2004, something many of the voters remember and would like to rectify.

What is WAR good for? Absolutely nothing

WAR is an attempt to measure something that has value.

The problem is value is a variable.

I don't resent the attempt to measure stuff, I don't resent the attempt to create data out of things either.

I also don't believe (without questioning) in absolutes or formulas based on assumed variables. But I see value in ranking systems that maintain a list that is close to normal stats.

It’s weird because I both think Beltre is a HOFer and a great and all, but when I try to process “one of the best ever 3Bs” my brain just kinda rejects it.

I mean I get that’s true and all especially with the lack of HOF 3Bmen, but there’s just some quality missing from Beltre that just doesn’t see him as an inner circle HOFer.

I do not think Beltre is a hall of fame either but I like him better than Rolen.

Maybe part of that is that he played clean (we think) during the heart of the PED era. Guys like Steve Finley were putting up unworldly numbers thanks to PED’s, while Beltre was putting up what would normally be league dominating numbers that looked average in comparison.

That's an argument for just not having a Hall of Fame. Just erect a stature of Babe Ruth somewhere and call it a day.

It's those five lost years in Seattle in what should have been his prime. That park ate him alive. He rebounded and became one of the best post-30 players in history, but you really have to wonder if he could have put up a few more seasons like 2004 if he had gone anywhere but Seattle.
