I actually like a lot of "dad rock" - I just really don't know Zevon. This very well might be a me issue. I grew up listening to 60s and 70s rock. I honestly can only name one Zevon song.

Saw Zevon at Bogarts in, ehhhhh, 1978? Not sure of the year because that era of my life is shrouded in a Bud Light and tequila fog. Wish I kept all those ticket stubs. But it was a great show and, at that time, he was just breaking out so it’s always cool to see a star on the knee of their ascension curve. He had the OMG I can’t believe this is happening to me aura about them. Him and band just played their guts out.
And I’d vote for Willie in the Hall. Him and Waylon were a natural extension of country extending into the rock-ish world with the Eagles, Byrds, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstady, etc converging from a different angle. Seems to all make sense now with the way the country genre is but it was fun to see it evolve and play out in real time.

It's a bit of an easy listening class. Very happy to see the Spinners and Link Wray in there.
Iron Maiden continues to drift in the abyss for reasons that don't make any sense. The White Stripes getting left off is bizarre. They went gold or platinum on every record they released. "Seven Nation Army" might be the most recognizable hook on the planet (it's perhaps the top soccer chant). But the Hall veered toward the softer sounds on their list.
Yet that still wasn't enough to get Cyndi Lauper in.
And Joy Division/New Order not making it is a crime. They're about as seminal as a band can be. Modern music is practically running off a Joy Division playbook. Seriously, I think Bad Bunny listened to a ton of Joy Division and sort of grafted his Latin & rap influences onto their structures.

It's a garbage class. Zevon was the class of the class. Some that got in are ok to listen to but that shouldn't be the standard - others that got in aren't even close to rock and roll performers.

Rock has been running on fumes in the 21st Century, and this list reflects that.
Might as well have a Best Iceboxes and Milk Delivery Services list while we're at it.
