No Zevon. Makes me hate the Hall. What a joke!!!

Any artist who can write and record an upbeat, rollicking good time of a tune that has as its subject rape, murder, and abuse of a corpse has to be in the HOF, right? Zevon should have been HOF-worth for "Excitable Boy," alone. lol Linda Ronstadt sang backup on the song.

Well, he went down to dinner in his Sunday best
    Excitable boy, they all said
And he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest
    Excitable boy, they all said

He took in the four a.m. show at the Clark
    Excitable boy, they all said
And he bit the usherette's leg in the dark
    Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

He took little Suzie to the Junior Prom
    Excitable boy, they all said
And he raped her and killed her, then he took her home
    Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

After ten long years they let him out of the home
    Excitable boy, they all said
And he dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones
    Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

No one would write a better song about their RnRHOF snub than Zevon.

Now, I get it, Missy Elliot is rap/r&b and I am unsure if she belongs in the rock and roll HoF. However, I’ve been to the actual RRHOF here in Cleveland and it’s really more about presenting different music to people more than anything. I wasn’t expecting much when I went and I actually thought it was pretty cool. Once I got there I realized I shouldn’t take it very serious and kinda just got “it” while I was there.
And it's important to remember this is a music rooted in R&B and doo-wop. Yes, it veered toward rock, but it also veered toward rap and in a dozen other directions.

Got that right. That would be hilarious.

The mental gymnastics to put Missy Elliott in the rrhof, or any music hall of fame, is staggering.

I can think of a million artists that deserve to be in the r and b Hof before she does.

Is there a "****ty r and b that sells a lot of albums hall of fame?" Maybe she gets the nod there.

Maybe have her and Positive K do a sing off for it or something.

Yet there's Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers and the Staples Singers, inducted decades ago. Staggering.

The proper format is “My name is [Your Name] and I’m here to say, I dislike hip hop acts in the rock hall in a major way.”

Even more staggering, James Taylor's in there. There's nothing remotely rock n roll about James Taylor's music. Yet there he is. It's almost like it's not and never has been this institution making all of its picks from within an extremely narrow band.

Again... All of those names. Putting them as an equivalent to Missy Elliott. In ANY genre.

As a new/current artist, stylistically, James Taylor would likely be relegated to AAA (Adult Album Alternative) and Lite FM today. Yet several of his tracks are still on Classic Rock Radio playlists today, and were also receiving significant then-Mainstream Rock (AOR) Radio airplay back in the day.

But that's beside the point, as you, westofyou and others have pointed out, functionally, it really isn't the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame; it's the Popular Music Hall of Fame. It just hasn't been rebranded as such.
