Re: If you have kids are they interested in sports?

Regarding parents, my daughter stuck with swimming because it was such a supportive atmosphere in the pool and the coaches were great. Her highschool coach swam for Doc Councilman and channeled his philosophy of using the sport to grow as a person first. But many parents had different ideas, and it pained me to watch them push their kids and complain to other parents about lack of effort, not caring, etc. Most of them had never been in a pool for a team, and I am sure had no concept of how difficult it is to shave off the seconds in the water. Swimming is one of the most difficult and unforgiving sports, there is nowhere to hide your flaws in the pool. These parents all had dreams of scholarships and were always running the film ahead to their kids' college glory rather then appreciating that the nature and difficulty of the sport- try swimming 6,000 yards a day year round- teaches life lessons about attitude and grit every day.
