Richard Belzer dies at 78

At least that's what they say. He was born older than that. He's a major cog in the Tommy Westphall universe, which claimed that the snowglobe ending of St. Elsewhere meant that nothing ever touched by that show, including crossovers, really happened (I have some bad news for you). He played Munch on 301 shows (officially), meaning pretty much everything on television ever was fiction.

I've always traced my hearing loss to standing too near speakers at a Kenny Loggins (seriously) concert where Belzer was the opening act, so maybe that never happened either.

Munch was the same cynical detective in Baltimore for 6 years in Homicide Life On the Streets. If We Own This City (Baltimore) is even close to accurate he had good reason to be cynical.
