I keep coming back to a lineup that has Encarnacion-Strand in the middle of it-- and I really ilke that lineup.

    Benson too.
    And, oddly, Barrero.

How many Reds have had outstanding springs so far?

    CES
    Cerda
    Benson
    Friedl
    Fraley
    Steer
    Barrero
    EDLC

All have OPS over 900-- most over 1.000.

Still way too many Ks/ PA, but I'll take a 30% K rate if he can put up those numbers.
I know Barrero is not a popular guy among the redszone masses, but the best thing that could possibly happen for the Reds is for him to win the shortstop job and post respectable (hopefully more than respectable) numbers. We all know EDLC is going to stake claim to that position in the very near future. If Barrero shows himself to be a MLB shortstop the Reds have a fantastic trade chip.
That’s the way successful small market teams like the Rays do it.

You know, many of us remember the 3-run PH HR against the Dodgers by Hal King that turned the tide of that season.

REDS went into today's game leading MLB in Stolen Bases this Spring with 19. They have only 1 CS.

Tonight they have added two to that total to give them 21. I don't know if the pickoff of Barrero was a CS, or not.

***next best is KC with a 16/1 ratio in one more game played.

Alex Young has done nothing to hurt his chances at making this club on Opening Day.

    Dude's been outstanding so far.

Ball never got out of the infield while letting his fielders take care of two of the three outs. That's how you pitch effectively.

So what you are saying is that there are quite a few of us old farts on redszone?

Our team pitchig is giving up a league-worst .312 average, 28th in WHIP, 28th in ERA, but we are 4th in K's.

The most important part is that those who are likely to make the Opening Day roster have actually pitched pretty well. We just have a lot bad pitchers in Spring Training who have no business thinking about being on the Opening Day roster.
