    I guess if anyone can "resurrect" their career, the place to be is hitting in Colorado at Coor's Field.

    A 30 year old making 1.5M$ after his first full season, who had a 1.7 WHIP last year?

    I'll pass. Better pitchers available via FA right now, if they were going to add from outside the org which it doesn't appear like that's a direction they plan to go.

    It may have been mentioned elsewhere but lovely to see the meme going around that KGJ is the 4th highest paid player on the Reds this year.

    I’ve heard that but it’s funny - I’ve seen it mentioned that GABP has out-Coorsed Coors the past few years, especially in HR. The vast outfield in Denver still leads to more XBH.

    Zack Meisel
    @ZackMeisel

    Triston McKenzie has a strain of his right teres major muscle (back of the shoulder) and will be shut down from throwing for 2+ weeks. He'll be sidelined for up to eight weeks overall.
    Big blow to the Guardians.

    MLB requires clubs to set aside deferred money as it is earned.

    It's usually put into an annuity until the player is due to receive payments.

    This allows the team to 1) collect interest and 2) carry the full salary on its books in the year the money is earned.

    So old contracts with deferrals generally do not drag down future payrolls, despite memes that appear around Opening Day & payments to Bobby Bonilla. Ken Griffey Jr. is not holding down the Reds 2023 payroll. Baltimore is not robbing Adley Rutschman to pay Chris Davis.

    The A’s are throwing in the towel on Christian Pache, a player with probably still far more upside than our guy Senzel. Probably not a guy the Reds will pursue but I’d explore it if I was running thing.
    “I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    How many organizations are now using humidors for game balls?

    Second baseman Andrés Giménez and the Cleveland Guardians are finalizing a long-term contract extension, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Giménez, 24, was a first-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner last year and put up 7.4 Wins Above Replacement -- a star-level season.

    Andrés Giménez's contract extension with the Guardians will be for seven years and $106.5 million and includes a club option for the 2031 season, sources tell ESPN. The deal starts next year and covers Giménez's three arbitration years and potentially five free agent seasons.

    It's too early to tell. Wait 'till our guys are 2 yrs removed from free agency. A contract that buys out 5 yrs of free agency makes sense for a player you value highly. The guardians pick and choose who they do this for. Bauer is an example of a guy where this model didn't fit
