Have we been sleeping on Ramos as the 13th position player? I think maybe he’s got a shot since he’s a switch hitter.

I wouldn’t rule out Ramos and Vosler both making the team and somebody else not making it. Benson, Friedl (trade?) would be two candidates. Or maybe somebody’s health is questionable for OD. Or maybe Ramos is just an extra guy for the end of ST and will be sent down very soon.

Here's hoping Sousa makes the cut. 3 LHP in the pen shouldn't be too much to ask for.

There’s no pressure. Nobody expects the Reds to win anything this year. I just saw SI pick them to lose 98 games. Fourth and fifth starter are a non-issue IMO, they’ll get by. Reds aren’t spending on anybody good in any event.

OK. Assuming the guys below make it, are we down to two spots for Kuhnel, Law, and Sousa?

    R Diaz
    R Cruz
    R Farmer
    L Sanmartin
    L Young
    R Gibaut

This includes arguable bubble guys Cruz, Gibaut, Kuhnel, Sousa. Also in running are NRI pitchers Strickland, Law, and Young. Of that group (7 altogether) 5 will make the team, assuming 13 pitchers altogether, and 2 will be cut.

Reds have 13 active roster position players, but Senzel will be on IL, so 12 can go north. NRIs competing for final spot appear to be Vosler and Henry Ramos. At least 1 NRI will have to make it.

All unless there are trades and/or waiver pick ups.
With Strickland released, Reds need to cut two more players, a pitcher and a position guy (excluding IL designations).

13 pitchers would be Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft, Overton, Cessa, Diaz, SanMartin, Farmer and five more relievers from six guys - Cruz, Gibaud, Kuhnel, Sousa and NRIs Law and Young.

One more cut also necessary among position players, likely Vosler or Ramos.

Probably be resigned to a new minor league contract next week after he doesn’t find a big league deal elsewhere. He has to know this place is his best opportunity to get back into the bigs?!

Keep in mind, the Reds don’t have to finalize their roster today, simply had to make decisions on guys with opt outs.

Have to assume Chase Anderson is agreeing not to opt out at this time, can still do so later, and that the Reds will give him a 100,000$ bonus to go to Louisville.

Anderson was sent to minor league camp yesterday. Not sure if that means he accepted the move, or if he has yet to do so.

He couldn’t do anything until noon.

Gotta admit, based on comments from Bell and others, I assumed that Strickland and Pinder were gong to make the roster no matter how they did in the spring. Pleased to see the Reds willing to cut management favorites when they don’t produce.

Re: Spring Training Cuts and Reds Roster Status

Retroactive IL date for 2023 season is Monday, March 27th.

....As long as the player did not appear in a game during the retroactive period (including "official" MLB Cactus League or Grapefruit League games or other MLB pre-season exhibition games), an MLB 10-day or 15-day Injured List assignment can be backdated up to three days (including the three days prior to MLB Opening Day), and a 7-day (acute concussion) Injured List assignment can be backdated up to four days (including the four days prior to MLB Opening Day).

*Reminder: Players can only be placed on the 60-day IL if the 40 man roster is full and that player's spot on the 40 man roster must then be replaced by another player. Additionally, any player placed on the 60-day IL in spring training is ineligible to return too an active roster until May 29th at the earliest.

I was confident that both would make the team. I'm very glad that I was wrong about both.
