Exactly and it doesn't hurt to get a guy a look in Cf when there is no CF of the future in sight and shortstops stacked to the rafters.

If Barrero plays well, he's likely not the SS of the future.

Barrero gets a few reps in CF. I would have expected that, he’s played there before. Next issue.

Bell likes versatility, so this is an option he has. Likely only four regular outfielders. Not a big deal.

    So... decisions left:
bullpen: Derek Law, Hunter Strickland, Bennett Sousa, Alex Young, Joel Kuhnel

position players: Jason Vosler, Henry Ramos, Will Benson, TJ Friedl

The bullpen has Diaz, Sanmartin, Farmer, and Gibaut. Young deserves a spot as well.

That means Law, Strickland, Sousa, and Kuhnel are fighting for three spots, yes?

For offense, I suspect Benson and Friedl make the team, with Vosler and Ramos vying for the last spot.

If so, getting rid of Strickland would be ideal, while keeping Vosler strikes me as the more prescient move.

That said, you know they're going to keep Strickland, if only to provide a bit more depth. Kuhnel has options. He's a goner.

    Position Players
I'd take TJ Friedl and Will Benson
    I bet they take Vosler

    Bullpen
I'd go with Alex Young, Derek Law, and Joel Kuhnel
    I think they'll take Strickland

Re: Spring Training Cuts and Reds Roster Status

So I guess Cessa is the #4 SP. If Williamson was optioned, Anderson was reassigned to minor league camp, and Weaver is starting on the IL, who’s the 5th SP?

I still think Friedl and Benson are redundant, but at this point, with Fairchild optioned, I’ll take them both. I think Vosler makes the roster as well. Good for him. I would not have thought that in February.

Cruz will be in the bullpen. Strickland is going to make it whether we like it or not. Isn’t he a NRi? If he’s still in Major League Camp, I’m assuming he’s heading to Cincinnati next week. The last bullpen spot is a meh - but I hope it’s someone who can provide a little length. The BOR is yeeeesh.

    Edit**

Overton is the #5 i suppose. I forgot he existed.

David Bell says Connor Overton will start game 4 and Luis Cessa will start game 5.

So the debate over Pinder v Fairchild ends with a thud.

The utility v fifth OF (RH) continues.

I figure Ramos will be odd man out and Vosler will make it, though wouldn’t be shocked if Benson goes to AAA to begin.

Bullpen i figure Diaz, Sanmartin, Farmer, Gibaut, Young, Cruz, Kuhnel, Strickland. Guessing Law won’t make it but just because he’s similar to others and non-roster. Young over Sousa just a wild guess, Sousa is on roster.

My unrealistic hope, Reds sign Tyler Naquin as a LH OF option and trade TJ Friedl for a back end starting pitcher. Cessa to the bullpen to upgrade there.
