BZ, you’ve got some gutsy ones. I love it. Why so low on Guardians and Astros?

And I love the DBacks WC pick. I couldn’t pull the trigger. But they’re gonna surprise some folks.

Astros are already hurting (three would-be starters are on the shelf to start the season) and chose not to spend much money beyond big-time cash for a 36+ year old Jose Abreu. They're going to miss Verlander terribly too. Houston's playing in a division where the Angels, Rangers, and Mariners are all improved too-- that'll make it hard to make up games later. I don't think they'll spend the money to get over the hump either, considering they won it all last year. There's unlikely to be a feeling of urgency.

Guardians are due some bad luck, honestly. Last year, they had 5 guys with 550+ PAs and two more with nearly 500. They had their three best SP start 30+ games. Six of their seven top bullpen arms all threw 50+ games too. Maybe they've figured out the whole staying healthy thing (far) better than other teams. I doubt that, but it's possible.

Of course, I'm also a moron. So, y'know, I'm almost assuredly wrong.

I'll take the opportunity to look stupid by predicting the NL Central standings:

    Cardinals
    Cubs
    Pirates
    Brewers
    Reds

Call me delusional, but I have faith the Reds can stay out of the cellar in the NL Central.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    Re: 2023 MLB Projected Standings

The lists look oddly similar to the ones from last year, which is probably a safe way to go.
My lack of a list includes only this:
Marlins are better than we think, and so are the Giants.
White Sox should have taken the ascendency in AL-C but decided they needed Tony LaRussa. They lost that moment.
San Diego can print another billion dollars and still finish behind the Dodgers.
Milwaukee will play well in April, July and August. The rest of the time, they are a 4th place team.

I used to be like some of y'all and believe the Reds would finish above the expert predictions. I see many of you have them third. I've always been. overly optimistic when concerning the Reds. Not this year. This is a bad team. They will finish in last and possibly lose 100+ games. I will gladly eat crow if wrong.
