Reds have all of the Mariners’ prospects. That’s why the M’s had room and the Reds didn’t.

Barry Bonds, Joe Price and David Price weren't around yet when I saw this as a kid. I can't remember who the other OFers were. Its one you historians can spend time with.

Reds have been too busy collecting every retread you can find. Mariners built a roster with reasonable talent and had some open spots as a result.

David Bell said it’s unlikely for Joey Votto to return on Thursday.

    Jose Barrero is available today.

Jason Vosler is going to start getting a bit of pregame work in the outfield.

The #Reds today selected from Triple-A Louisville the contract of RHP Kevin Herget, optioned to Louisville RHP Joel Kuhnel and designated for assignment LHP Bennett Sousa.

I think Kuhnel got short shrift here. Last year his ERA was poor but xERA, FIP, GB rate, BB rate all good and K rate league average. Victim of high BABIP.

He sat until game five of this season then wasn’t effective. Shocker.

He does have options so will bounce up and down this season, but I’m generally unhappy with the Reds overuse of some relievers and overuse of others so far.

Kuhnel has pitched 72.2 MLB innings, a full season’s worth for a reliever. He has a career 6.32 ERA, 4.26 FIP. I don’t think his demotion was based on his one bad outing so far this year.

Personally, I had hopes for him when he was first called up, but he just hasn’t produced yet in 4 attempts of staying in the majors. I wish him the best, hope he can turn it around, but not losing sleep over his demotion.

I think his demotion was mainly because Bell needed a fresh arm in the 'pen today

Look deeper. Kuhnel had a very nice year last season except a high BABIP and ERA. K rate, BB rate, GB rate, xERA, FIP all pretty good or better.

He has options, will bounce around, but I wouldn’t write him off.

Ground ball pitcher, average Ks, doesn’t walk many.

I’ve seen more than my share of relievers with more optimistic deeper numbers, that never manifested into better actual numbers.

I’m not giving up on Kuhnal at all, just not upset that he was the one who was sent down for a fresh arm.
