    Andrew Abbott

Reds top pitching prospect struck out the first 9 batters he faced yesterday for Chattanooga. Ended up striking out 11 over 4.2 hitless, scoreless innings.

He really knows how to work the upper half of the zone…impressive.

The carry and angles he creates with that fastball are a thing of beauty. It wouldn’t surprise me if his upside sneaks up on people.

Abbott was very successful last year too. He looks to be the best SP prospect in the upper minors for the Reds.

A lot of Tom Browning in Abbott, I think. If he can find a little changeup, kind of like Browning had that screwball, look out. Still, part of me wonders whether he's going to be able to get the swing and misses and the strike calls on that high fastball in the big leagues. The velocity is not plus.

Abbott is so smooth. He belongs in Triple-A right now, facing hitters that can challenge him more.

He’s 24. Don’t see any reason to take it slow with him.
How do we know he's not Mel Torme?

Yeah, it’s only 11 innings but those numbers so far are eye-popping. He’ll be in AAA as soon as there’s room.

He should be in AAA with the next turn through the rotation. He's 24, plenty old for the level, and has already amassed 22 AA starts and 101.2 innings. His ERA masks relatively dominant peripherals-- a few too many walks (which he's shored up over his last few starts last year and his first few this season), but an elite K rate balances it out. Less than one H per innings (7.5/9) too. Abbott's made his adjustment to AA-- he needs to learn how to make those adjustments in AAA.

Abbott could get 20+ AAA starts and 100+ IP this season-- that'd give him enough minor league innings to move up (depending on how well he pitches, of course).

Agree. In AAA you have a number of experienced hitters who will provide tough at bats against Abbott, who now has over 100 innings at AA ball.
