Minor League Game Thread for Easter Sunday, 4/9/23

LOUISVILLE 2-6 1:05 EDT - This would be an appropriate day for the Bats to rise up from the dead, so to speak, and snap their 4-game losing streak. Ben "Ten" Lively (3.60) draws the starting assignment. Louisville faces a pitcher sporting an ERA over 13. So, there's hope.

CHATTANOOGA 2-1 OFF - The Lookouts are off today, but here is a link to their impossible rally yesterday. Enjoy the read. https://www.milb.com/news/chattanoog...its-seven-runs

DAYTON 1-2 OFF - The Team in Green is also off today. They will be back on the field Tuesday for the home opener.

DAYTONA 2-0 12:05 EDT - The unbeaten Tortugas will try to sweep the hated St. Lucie Yougotsome'splainingtodos. A sweep on the road to start the season would be exquisite. Here is the lineup. First pitch is eminent.

Interesting to see Cade Hunter in LF.

Also interesting to see the time share at SS and 2B between Acosta, Balzazar, and Jorge.

Five different time shares-- one at 3B (Stewart, Collier), one at 1B (Pino and Triana), one at catcher (Hunter and Tanner), one middle infield (Jorge, Balcazar, Acosta), and one in the OF-- two if you count CF as its own.

That's a whole lot of juggling for a manager.

DAYTONA RECAP - Sitting here stuffed from Easter Dinner. Daytona does indeed sweet St. Lucie. They take this game 6-3 to remain undefeated at 3-0.

    Jared Lyons looked crisp. 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K.
Mason Pelio did not pitch all that well: 3 R, 3 BB, 4 H, 3.2 IP.
Easton Sikorski registered a 4-out save.

Carlos Jorge walked and got hit by the pitch. He left the game after that. Fingers crossed that it isn't serious, as he was off to a blazing start to the season.
Cam Collier is also often to a wicked hot start. He too left the game after the third inning. Ditto the Jorge sentiments.
Henry Rodriguez was a third Tortuga to be removed mid-game.
Cade Hunter singled twice and plunked.

LOUISVILLE RECAP - Glub, glub, glub. Bats trail 5-1 in the bottom of thee 8th, and are well on their way to dropping their fifth straight game.

Noting the box score, Ben Lively did not make the start. Luke Weaver went 4 hitless innings. 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K.
Lucas Sims followed up with a scoreless frame. Nice to see.
Zach Brown (3 R in .2 IP) and Jared Solomon (2 R in .1 IP) stunk.
Tayron Guerrero with his third consecutive shutout stint, totaling 5.1 IP.
Ricky Karcher is on in the 9th.

Bats lashed out 2 hits so far.
Chuckie Robinson has singled and been hit by a pitch.
    TJ Hopkins has doubled.
McLain and Martini have each been issued 2 free passes.

Joey Votto is 0-4 with 2 Ks.

Cam Collier is 3-4 with a double, 4 walks, 3 RBIs, and a stolen base and just one strikeout in his first 2 games.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I think that ERA is a bit deceiving but if a pitcher wants to get well, going into the Belfry is the place to get it done.

LOUISVILLE RECAPER - No late-inning magic for the Bats. In fact, just the opposite occurred. Ricky Karcher gives up 3 runs in 2/3rds of an inning. Final score: Indy 8, Louisville 1.

Hunter Strickland has made 4 appearances without giving up a run.

3 Tortugas hit by pitches. Maybe Collier and Rodriguez were removed from the game to protect them.

Jorge got drilled in the hand. If there isn't a broken bone, it's going to be a few days for him.

I want to see them promote Collier aggressively

How on Earth did 17 teams let Cam Collier pass them by in last year's draft?

    $$$$

He asked for a bonus well above slot. Reds were the first team to agree to pay it.

I get that, and kudos to the Reds for figuring it out. A better question - how many teams ahead of the Reds would have found a way if they could do it all over? I know it's only been like, 20 professional games, but he is looking like one of the 5 best players out of the draft thus far.
