I saw Heart at Riverbend in 1988. All part of a series of rock shows we saw there that summer. It was the summer my wife was pregnant with our first. So I had a designated driver for all those shows (I got the hairy eyeball a lot when I said “just one more beer”). It was my last hurrah as a wild rock guy and transitioned to a family man for the next 25 years.

Mine too. And that's saying something because they had a bunch of great ones. Great band. Rodgers is music royalty.

I can’t listen to this song even now. I fell in love with a woman named Sharon that slayed my heart. I was helplessly and hopelessly in love with her. But I was her transitional man out of her divorce. For a month, I walked on air. Angels sang and I wanted to spend my life with her and have babies and live the grand life. But then she said “I want to date around” and found someone else. I crashed and burned. And plummeted and died. And that puts it mildly. I call it my black time. Got drunk and stayed drunk. Didn’t talk to anyone. Seriously considered killing myself. Cried at the drop of a hat. I eventually dug myself out of a dark hole but it took a while. I hear this song on an oldies station and it all high highs and low lows floods back. I learned some very hard lessons from all that but I learned them very well.

And now I’ve gone on way too long about all that.

And she's probably on Cubzone right now chain-smoking Camels and slugging back the Old Grandad, lamenting the fact that she can't listen to "Hold the Line" anymore because it takes her back to a time when she let this great guy named Roy get away because she wanted to be a w**** .

I saw Heart in 1979, was seated in the Beehive club at the Coliseum, it was sterile up there and I didn't enjoy the show

Let me bust out at full speed with one:

If you don't dig what I say
    Then I will go away.
And I won't come back this again. No.
    'Cause I don't need a friend.

Re: Name That Classic Rock Song (Fun Music Thread)

Four songs about "LOVE." Can you name all four?

    17.

    Some fools think of happiness
    Blissfulness, togetherness
Some fools fool themselves, I guess
    They're not foolin' me
    I know it isn't true
    I know it isn't true
    Love is just a lie
Made to make you blue ...

    18.

    You love her
    But she loves him
    And he loves somebody else
    You just can't win
    And so it goes
    'Til the day you die
    This thing they call love
    It's gonna make you cry
    I've had the blues
    The reds and the pinks
    One thing for sure ...

    19.

When I'm with you, are you somewhere else?
Am I gettin' through or do you please yourself?
When you wake up, will you walk out?
It can't be love if you throw it about
    .
    .
    .

    Oh, yeah
I don't want to touch you too much, baby
'Cause makin' love to you might drive me crazy
I know you think that love is the way you make it
So I don't wanna be there when you decide to break it, no

    20.

    Time on my side.
    I got it all.
    I heard that pride
    Always comes before a fall.

There's a rumor goin' around the town.
That you don't want me around.
I can't shake off my city blues.
    Everywhere I turn, I lose.
    .
    .
    .
    .

You get too much , you get too high
Not enough and you're gonna die
    Love gets you high

Relatively close to the truth. The coda to my woeful tale is I got a Facebook friend request from her with her married name a few years back. I skulked around her profile and she looked awful. Probably 50 lbs heavier, now a bleached blonde, and she didn’t look good at all (perhaps the same could be said for me, who knows). I thought about it for a bit and decided to let sleeping dogs lie. I am a loyal and faithful husband and my wife and mother of our 3 children has put up with my crap for 38 years and one of the lessons I learned was to be faithful to my spouse (another woeful tale for another day). I thought about my life and decided it had turned out pretty darn well and she was the loser in the deal and hit the delete request button. I must admit, it felt pretty good.

And it made him the triumph of a human he is today. There's a reason why we show off our scars.
