I think B+ for the draft. Filled a lot of holes for players that are going to be too expensive to bring back. The defense is younger and the players brought in fit the high character team captain mold that the Bengals have went after since Taylor became coach.

They generally went BPA and did not reach for need (except for perhaps the punter), taking highly ranked guys most of whom had high raw athletic scores.

The 2 WRs plus 3 DBs kind of limited what they could do elsewhere, but each looks like a good pick individually at that point in time.

I didn't see any of the draft live today, but read the ticker across the bottom on TV when I got home. A commercial made it so that I missed who the Bengals took in the 5th, but I assumed that it was a RB and it was. It almost looks like they even traded up to get him. I have a feeling that they targeted him and are very intrigued by him. He also may be 4th in the pecking order and has to pass several players before he moves up and gets playing time. First things first. He must be able to pass-protect before he takes a snap in the NFL. That will come in practice.

I think McShay said something like the Bengals got themselves a helluva pass protector in Brown. Dude was in tears when he got the word he was a Bengal. I look for him to make an impact sooner than later.

Great draft. I don't think it needs overcomplicating - they have to get more cost efficient on defense. They truly have enough depth all over the roster to survive injuries.
In the regular season I think they can survive injuries to anyone save for Burrow and in the postseason now I think they can survive anything save for injuries really decimating an entire position group. They are loaded absolutely everywhere. The secondary has to be one of the fastest in the NFL now and now they might still have a pass rush when Hendrickson has to come out. Special teams also just went from deficient to a plus unit.
I love that they aren't taking luxuries like a TE that'll get 40 catches a year or an early RB. Those are flashy and fun but I'm more worried about season killing scenarios like going down a couple of corners in January or Hendrickson going down and not being able to rush the passer at all. You can't have that in a league with Mahomes, Allen, Rodgers, Lamar, Lawrence and on and on.

They're still not covered for injuries like they had on the O line last year but you can only have so much depth in the NFL given the 53 man roster and salary cap
Speaking of that. With player safety being paramount, it’s very surprising that that they haven’t raised the 53 man rosters.

Disagree actually, they're much deeper on the oline now. We know Jackson Carmen is capable of looking like an NFL tackle & Collins should be late season depth. It's enough depth that I'm not sure Adeniji makes it through the season.

It’s definitely better, but that’s assuming Jonah Williams plays for the Bengals and Collins doesn’t have any setups and can contribute positively late in the season. If Jonah leaves, RT could still be a mess since Carmen is still a big question mark on the right side. Granted, he looked incredible last year in the playoffs at LT, but for some reason, he’s struggled mightily on the right side. But, maybe he’s figured that side out too?? I hope so.

Strange comment you're making that they're deeper now and then you mention two players that they had last year. If you're counting on those players to do more than last year, that's great but they are still the same guys. I'm not convinced Carman can do anything at RT and I'm not sure what he can give us at LT. He did give us a really good game at Buffalo and kudos to him for that
I would give this draft a C. It was pretty meh for me, middle of the pack. They didn't make any big splashes, pretty much ignored three of the biggest needs on this football team, but it looked like they followed their draft board to a T.
Murphy IMO is a rotational piece right now. Hopefully a light goes off with him, because he has all the talent in the world but never but it together.
Turner was a safe pick who will probably slide into a starting role in a season or two.
Battle is interesting, started three years at Alabama. Was a very highly rated recruit, who seemed to be lower on most draft boards than you would think. I think he has a chance to be a long time started in this league. Kinda the guy who never grabs attention or headlines, but just is a quality NFL player.
Jones needs to come in right away and contribute. Guys is old, and at WR, he may not see a second contract. But he could replace Boyd in the slot as early as next season.
Brown, I loved this pick. He was the only weapon Illinois had last season and he helped them to a surprising season. He has a lot of miles on his legs, but he should be able to replace Mixon at some point.
In regards to the Punter, if you think he is the best punter in the class, go head and grab him, and grab him a little earlier than expected. They need a reliable punter, as Huber wasn't and it doesn't like like Christman is the answer.
The rest I view a special teams players at best. Maybe they carve out a roll, but I wish they would have drafted at least one TE and at least one more RB.
Knowing how well they've done in their last four three drafts, I give them an A+ and an A+ in Free Agency.

Nice analysis. Thinking about Jones and Boyd. I wonder if Boyd is on the trade block now. Would be nice to add a 3rd or 4th round pick for 2024.
