    RIP Gordon Lightfoot

Singer Gordon Lightfoot, a Canadian 'rare talent,' dies at 84

Lightfoot was 84 years old. Representative Victoria Lord confirmed that Lightfoot died at a Toronto hospital early Tuesday morning, but did not elaborate on his cause of death.

Some of his most famous songs include "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," which told the true story of a freighter sinking on Lake Superior. Another hit, "If You Could Read My Mind," told the story of a failing marriage.

I love this tune. Really gorgeous.

It's hard to pick a favorite Gord tune, though. RIP.

My Spouse, and she knows songs' lyrics bettet than anyone I know, thought it was, "The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald".

Being from a family of Mariners, that song always has an extra special feeling for me.

Big fan of Mr. Lightfoot. One of the best storytellers ever!!!

    Re: RIP Gordon Lightfoot

Edmond Fitzgerald was a big Wisconsin ship builder, his son was a businessman in Milwaukee and the main money man in purchasing the bankrupt Seattle Pilots right after ST in 1970, his right hand man for that deal was a young Bud Selig.

If anything can be said about Gordon Lightfoot it is aside from his name being Gordon (THE national name of Canada) he is greatly loved there because he, like The Tragically Hip sang songs about Canada, instilling a national ethos in their material.

Side note, The name precursor "Fitz" means "Bastard Son" so somewhere down the line, Gerald had a bastard son
