The more I see Matt McLain the more he reminds me of a young Barry Larkin.
He is a really talented ballplayer.

Matt McLain has been in the big leagues for only a month. But he’s among leaders at shortstop on the NL All-Star ballot.

Jay Bruce. SMH. He should've been more like Votto and less like Dunn. He struck out only 3 times in his first 10 games and then struck out 107 times in his next 98. While I didn't expect him to keep up those incredible stats he started with, I did have some expectation that he'd be at least hovering somewhere near the .290 mark in BA. I always wonder if coming up with Junior and Dunn as his outfield mates stopped him in his tracks, as he seemed to not go the opposite field much as his ABs accumulated and was always swinging for the fences. Or was it that the organization changed him with a "We know you're a high BA, high OBP guy, but we lack power hitters when Junior and Dunn leave, so we would like you to become one."

A healthy Zack Cozart was a really good player. Too bad he was never healthy for very long.

Matt McLain leads the way in Cincinnati Reds' All-Star voting
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...g/70314250007/
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Matt McLain has been one of the best hitters in baseball since he got called up in the middle of May. On Monday, he received some national recognition.
When MLB provided the first update on this year’s All-Star voting, McLain ranked fourth among all of the shortstops in the National League.
With 200,152 votes, McLain only trails Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor and San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts.
McLain ranks ahead of Dansby Swanson and Trea Turner, who both signed nine-figure contracts during the offseason.
McLain entered Monday with a .336 batting average and a .905 OPS while playing standout defense at shortstop. Even though McLain was in college two years ago, he has already become a consistent No. 2 hitter in the Reds lineup.
The next update on voting will be on June 20, and Phase 1 of the balloting process ends on June 22. Then, the top two vote-getters at each position, as well as the top six outfielders, in each League will advance to the second phase of voting to determine who starts for each league’s All-Star team.

Since 1901, Reds with 4+ triples in his first 30 career games
2023 - Matt McLain
1936 - George McQuinn
1935-36 - Les Scarsella
1927-28 - Pid Purdy
1924 - Hughie Critz
1922 - Ike Caveney
1915-16 - Frank McKenry
1913-14 - Bert Niehoff (5)
1913 - Al Wickland (5)
1908 - Bob Bescher
30 games into his big league career McLain has scored 25 runs and driven in 15 while collecting 43 hits. The BAbip will normalize, but I think he has room to improve the BB/SO rate and HR numbers to offset that. So far he's playing like an All Star starting SS. The defense and speed are better than advertised by the "experts".

It's really easy to forget how good Austin Kearns was before getting hurt.

Seeing Kearns and Dickerson at the top of that list kinda immediately lets some of the air out of the balloon. Lol.
