McClain is reminding me of Altuve alot!!

Hard to dislike this kid. He’s been the best thing this season. I’ve actually watched a few games just to see him.

Reds averaging 5.5 runs/game since McLain debuted.
That’ll do.

Winning NL Player of the Week in just your second week in the bigs? Yup, Matt McLain is special.

Friedl and India are the only 2 position players on the Reds with a WAR higher than McLain's 0.8. Steer has the same.
He got there in only 2 weeks.

Matt McLain had 2 more hits last night and now has 7 multi-hit games through his first 14 big league appearances.
The last Red to have at least 7 multi-hit games through his first 14 games was Jay Bruce in 2008, who had 7 multi-hit games in his first 12 appearances.
The most impressive thing about McLain so far has been his defense. I thought he'd be an offense first SS that would get moved off the position pretty quick, but now I'm not so sure. He's by far the best defender the Reds have put out there at short this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a little better than EDLC at short.

Two and half weeks in, 61 at-bats, his slash line is .361/.426/.541 for a .967 OPS.
Hitting second in the line-up like he was born to it.
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

I am just as impressed with his fielding as his hitting. He is solid as a rock out there at SS.
What would you say.....ya do here?
Having seen them both in person, I'd be very surprised if McLain turns out a better defender.
He's smooth at the position and doesn't make many mistakes-- think Spike Owen or David Eckstein defensively. But EDLC gobbles up ground like no other person who plays the position (except Oneil Cruz). EDLC is quicker, faster, taller, and so, so, so incredibly long. His range is otherworldly. He does make more mistakes-- the kid might end up with 20 errors his first full season. But he'll get to balls other shorter SS could only dream of waving at.
And that arm is phenomenal. It might be his best tool, honestly.
