    New Guys

One of the best things about minor league ball is the pull of the next great thing. There always seems to be a guy or two around the corner who might well be a star. For this year's Red minor league squads, it's not just those would-be stars, but guys who've found successful niches in roles you might not have thought they'd be successful. I mean, how many of us thought Ben Lively could step up like he has? Who had Kevin Herget on their Bingo card?

It seems as if the Reds have had an inordinate number of guys who've figured things out a bit this season and progressed in exciting and new ways.

Who has, for you, put himself on the map this year as a prospect or has taken that next step?

Obviously the big 3 boppers in AAA have been great, but for me Abbott is the standout when you consider how insane offense is in the International league this year. He's gone from a maybe he can de a decent #5 to maybe he can be a decent #3. I would look at Hector Rodriguez and Carlos Jorge as guys who've elevated their stock probably more so with Rodriguez as I expected Jorge to have a breakout season.

+1 for Rodriguez. Jorge and before he was hurt Leonardo Balcazar. Acuna and Aguiar has been good as well.

I was hoping for Yerlin Confidan to show what he did here in AZ. He's been dealing with several small injuries and really hasn't been healthy the last year and a half.

Lyon Richardson seems to be a guy. TJ Hopkins has earned a shot at a big league role. Sneaky one is Daniel Duarte. He seems to have righted the ship after a rough start.

Lots of others the A ball infielders and H-Rod. The high A starting Pitchers. Abbott.

Eduardo Salazar's move to the pen has done wonders for his career.

Abbott did not get the love (he deserved) after last year. He was 12th in the RedsZone prospect poll.

He’s emerged in 2023, underrated no more. He gets my vote.

Abbott has cemented himself as a Top 100 prospect guy, I think.

Who else might make an end-of-year list?

    - Richardson?
    - Jorge?
    - Aguiar?
    - Acuna?
    - Phillips?
    - Hector Rodriguez?

I wonder how long it will be before they get Joe Boyle back to the 'pen

If the Reds fail to add Hopkins to the 40 this year, another team will take him in rule 5.

I've been wondering the same thing. Boyle is not all FB. He has also developed a good breaking ball as well. I suspect that he remains a starter in order to work on his control issues. He has the potential to be a lights out closer.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –Minor League Baseball has announced that Chattanooga Lookouts reliever Tommy Eveld has been named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for May 22-28.

Last week Tommy Eveld was lights out for Chattanooga. The reliever made three appearances and struck out six across five shutout innings. The right-hander helped the Lookouts take five out of six against the Trash Pandas and brought them within a half-game of first place in the North Division.

This season Eveld is 2-0 with 17 strikeouts to just six walks. The former Miami farmhand also has four saves, which ties him for second in the Southern League.

Chattanooga is off tonight but will continue their road series against the Tennessee Smokies tomorrow. They return home on June 6 to face off against the Birmingham Barons. Tickets for the next homestand and the rest of the year are available now and can be purchased on Lookouts.com.

What do we know about Ryan Cardona. I haven't seen him pitch yet. Stat wise he's like a lot of younger pitchers... lots of walks and strikeouts. .164 average against.
