Where he should be moved is into the Reds' starting rotation.
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

I’m surprised they’re letting major prospects spend a lot of time in that wacky tack-ball league. I’d be moving them out as long as they can hold their own in AAA.

You watch the videos of him and the fastball has a lot of ride and the slider has a lot of bite. I am curious how much of that scrubs off with a regular ball. Abbott lost some but was still strong.

Phillips K/9 last year was 12.3, this year it is a staggering 15.8. I am really curious how much of that jump is him and how much is the ball. I am not interested in trading him or rushing him right now

I can't believe MLB is testing a significant change like that in AA. Messing with the ball should be tried in those summer partner leagues and not one where you're trying to evaluate and progress serious prospects.

Phillips has 27 more K's than anyone else in the Southern League. The ball may be helping, but he's by far and away the most prolific strike out pitcher in the league regardless of the ball being used. The numbers should be expected to go up as he was a 21 year old that was likely a little rushed to AA last year.

Anyone heard how Marte is doing? When is he coming back from the IL?

Rece Hinds homered (9) in his first at-bat. He has yet to see a ball in the strike zone since. His second trip to the plate was 4 outside the zone, none particularly close. His third plate appearance resulted in an intentional base on balls.

Chris Williams is enjoying playing the Bats. He is 5-8 with 5 hr 11 rbi and 3 bb in the first two games of the series.

If Hinds can hone that new approach and Dunn proves real in AA, I suspect the Reds might actually have enough talent on the farm to compete for championships.

They'll need everything to break right, of course, but OF is a weak spot in player development.

Dunn (at CF) and Hinds (either corner) are well-rounded enough to provide value beyond that bat as well. Those two and Hopkins can be placeholders while still providing some value as others might develop.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

I'm not holding my breath for either Hinds or Dunn to be decent MLB players, and Hopkins looks like organization filler to me. If the Reds want to compete for real they'll have to do way better than that bunch. I would try to flip Hinds before he goes on another 0-100 stretch. Blake Dunn is almost 25 and just made it to AA. He would be another trade bait candidate for me.

Outfielders should be one of the easiest to entice to come to Cincinnati via free agency or whatever. Our OF is small and easy to cover and our stadium is a bandbox. It's resurrected many a career
