Chattanooga goes down in flames 2-1.

    Blake Dunn 1-4.
Jacob Hurtubise reach base 3 times - single, walk and catcher's interference.
Rece Hinds singled and was hit by a pitch.
Francisco Urbaez singled twice and doubled.
Ivan Johnson unloaded his 8th home run.

Somehow, Joe Boyle only gave up 2 runs. He allowed 12 baserunners (5 hits, 7 walks) over 4 innings. He fanned 4.

    Louisville was postponed.

Chase Petty so far tonight: 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K. ERA down to 1.29. 44 pitches/35 strikes. He has gone exactly 4 innings in each of his previous 6 starts in 2023. So, that might be all for Petty tonight. And, it is indeed, all for Chase. Carson Rudd will take over pitching duties.

Dayton only posted 3 hits tonight, but that was enough.

Ashton Creal was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 8th, and came home on a Jake Rogers single for the game's lone tally.

Carson Rudd worked 3 shutout frames.
Jake Gozzo nailed down the victory with two hitless innings, striking out a pair. His ERA dipped below 1.00 at 0.96.

    The Tortugas tumbled 5-4.

Cam Collier had a pair of base knocks as did Sal Stewart.
Michel Triana cracked his first home run on the season, a 2-run shot.

    The bullpen was impeccable.
Ryan Cardona went 4.1 scoreless. He walked 1 and struck out 7. ERA is 2.93.
Zach Maxwell blanked Palm Beach for 2 frames.

Chase is chomping (at the bit) for Chattanooga.

He’s ready, give him the bump next week. He can take Phillips’ spot in the rotation after he gets bumped to Louisville.

I don’t think they are going to be aggressive with Petty. I think they using this year to stretch him out. I would expect aggressive promotions with him next year with the goal to make the MLB roster in 2025. Just my .02.

I like the idea of adding Phillips to the rotation next year and Petty for 2025.

This is his second year in the Midwest League, and he has an ERA of 1.29. I guess you could say his K numbers aren’t overwhelming (they’re still respectable), but what else is left to prove there?

How about moving Jake Gozzo up. That's an easy one.

It's not about his numbers - its about his innings pitched and his age. He is only 20 years old and is limited to 4 innings each outing. They are clearly easing him into a larger workload. This season is about stretching out. Next season is about getting him ready for MLB.

In Charlotte it's the bottom of the 9th in a downpour and Karcher has loaded the bases on 2 walks after a single and a groundout. On a full count he gets a double play to seal the 2-1 victory. Pretty lackluster game with only 3 hits for the Bats.

I was at the Florence Y'Alls game tonight. First time for me. I found it interesting that their 1st baseman was 6'9" 320 lbs. He did hit a homer

Louisville takes the first of two seven-inning affairs, 8-0.

    Michael Mariot posted 6 scoreless.
Tony Santillan struggled. 25 pitches/11 strikes. He did record 2 outs.

Chuckie Robinson homered (8) and walked 3 times.
Jason Vosler homered (8). His was a grand slam.
    Nick Martini singled twice.
    Matt Reynolds doubled and walked.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

Red farm teams go 6-1 so far on the night, with the ACL Reds still battling it out.

DSL Reds are on their own streak-- they look like they have four or five guys who are interesting enough to follow. Soriano with two more hits today. Duno with a hit and BB. Yael Romero with the same. Rafhlmil Torres had a couple of hits as well. All those guys are 17. Anielson Buten had a couple of hits too-- he seems to own some serious power already. He's also a youngster.

Daytona shuts out Palm Beach, 3-0 in a rain-shortened 6 innings. Hector Rodriguez (2-3 with his 12th HR) and Sal Stewart (3-3 with his 3rd HR) supplied most of the offensive fireworks. Johnathan Harmon shined in his best performance of his career: 2 H, 6 K, 5 IP.

Dayton won, 3-1, in another pitcher's duel. They were no-hit for 6 innings, but broke it open with a 3-run 7th. McElvain went the first four and pitched well. That's a fairly common occurence lately. The former Vandy starter has been nails nearly all season in Low A. Time, IMO, for a bump up the ladder. He's currently sporting a 2.25 ERA.

Chattanooga grabbed a pair, 4-3 and 4-2. Lyon Richardson was shaky early before settling down nicely. 4 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 7 K, 2 ER. ERA now sits at 2.38 in AA. Evan Kravetz went 2 IP in middle relief, picking up the win. He's at 2.67 for the year. Rece Hinds hit his 13th HR of the season and went 2-3 in the game. In the other game, Christian Roa went 6 innings, giving up 2 ER with 3 BB, 3 H, and 5 K. He lowered his ERA to 4.88. James Free was the offensive star, with a 2B and his 7th HR. The two victories allowed the Lookouts to open up a two-game lead on the Tennessee Smokies with two left to play in the first half. Any combination of a Chattanooga win or Smokie loss in the last two games clinches the first half title.

The Bats won game one today, 8-0. They were the loser in game two, 4-3. Mariot went 6 in the opener, blanking the Knights on 3 H and 2 K. Nick Martini and Alejo Lopez had three hits on the day, all told.

ACL Reds are currently getting beat, 9-6. Richardo Cabrera already has a hit. That's good. The pitching has been pretty bad.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

Given the timing of everything would be a great time to sell high on Hinds in a trade for a SP. Hopefully he keeps it up either way.
