Both the Louisville Bats and DSL Reds win by identical scores of 13-8. As you might imagine, several offensive stars. Multi-hit games for a plethora of young Redlegs. Look them up if you don't believe me.

I'll get a couple chances to see the ACL Reds over the next few days. Should be fun. In the past if you get to the part 30 min early you can get seats anywhere you want.

Interested in seeing Sanchez and Cabrera.

Kenya Huggins relieved Mason Pellio at the start of the 4th inning in today's make-up of the Tortuga game rained out last night.

He didn't give up a run.

In his last 5 appearances covering 17.2 IP, Huggins has given up 2 ER. 19 K (including 7 today), 14 H, 3 BB.

That works out to a 1.04 ERA.

Perhaps the 20-year-old has found something.

Henry Rodriguez doubled, homered and walked in that same Daytona game. He leads the FSL in home runs with 10, and is second in OPS at .938.

Rough game for the ACL Reds tonight at Talking Stick. About 300 or so in attendance. The bats were left in Goodyear as they lost 15-1. Cabrera didn't get a hit but looked very good at the plate. He plays a very fluid short and looks a lot more experienced than he is.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

isn't the midseason break coming soon for the lower rungs? I believe after the halfway point is when they typically make a handful of moves.

I'm not sure if AAA does a 1st half champion or not, but Louisville is 1.5 games back in their division.

Nooga is 0.5 games back in their division.

Dayton and Daytona are both well far back.

Also of note, I've always been a proponent that winning baseball in the minors matters. Sure individual development matters more, but building a culture of winning and expectation of winning as they climb the ladder makes a difference when they reach the show, plus I don't care how good you are individually, winning is always fun and makes the time and effort spent improving your individual craft that much easier when you get to celebrate a victory more often than not. With that said, the Low-A thru AAA affliates have a winning record on the season to date. Feels like its been a long while since the Reds system has produced winning baseball.

I'm guessing there may be discussions after the draft signings in August.

Not sure he gets moved up until then. That said, yeah, a second-half Dayton lineup with Rodriguez (OF), Jorge (2B), Arroyo (SS), Callihan/ Callahan (3B/ UT), Hunter (C/LF), Trautwein (C/1B), Thompson (OF), Hendrick (OF), and perhaps a healthy Jay Allen (OF) may well be better than the one currently being trotted out. It would certainly be younger.

Gabriel Gomes looks like he's enjoying professional baseball so far. Three games, 3 BB, 3 K, and he's only 17. He plays catcher along with Duno-- might need to branch out.

Soriano, Duno, and Gomes is a solid trio of super young guys to follow.

The CES thing is kind of strange at this point. Perhaps they don't want Steer to play LF with Votto on the way back? Would seem like one of Steer, India or CES is going to need to learn how to play LF by this time next year, might as well start now.

    Hector Rodriguez to A+
    Chase Petty to AA
Noelvi Marte and Connor Phillips to AAA
    CES to Reds

All should happen by the end of this month.

Yeycol Soriano just hit his 6th double of the season in 3+ games (18 PA).

For some reason, they have been dialing back on Lyon Richardson's workload, or so it would appear. In his first six starts, he averaged around 45 pitches. The next three starts had him at 64, 65 and 59 respectively. During his last two starts, however, the number of pitches has declined noticeably - 51 and 46 pitches. Curious.
