IMO, Blake Dunn is going to be next year's Friedl. He's flying under the radar and will come up and play well all around at some point in 2024 and half of Redszone will say he doesn't belong in the big leagues every time he makes an out.

Blake Dunn had a nice week last night. 3 hits. 3 runs scored. 3 runs batted in. 2 singles. Home run number 9. (A tribute to the Beatles.) 2 walks. And, a stolen base (25). OPS stands at .989.

Dunn has louder tools than Friedl. TJ never stole more than 30 bases in a season in the minors and had a .420 SLG%. Dunn is 44/50 in SB this year with a .511 SLG%. I could see Dunn making a strong push for the Reds opening day roster next year.

I'm thinking more along the lines of being a very solid prospect who no one is talking about. IMO, Friedl is the team's second-best player (after McLain and just ahead of Steer mostly because of defense). He was an afterthought in the eyes of most fans and Dunn is the same way. I'm guessing Dunn eventually replaces Fraley in the OF and Fraley becomes the DH when Votto goes.

Friedl and Dunn would give the Reds two plus athletes that can handle CF one from each side of the plate. It seems like a really good fit moving forward. The question will likely be if Dunn has the bat to play some corner OF. I could see him filling the role Fairchild did this year with better results(not that Stewy has been terrible or anything). Dunn is likely the second best athlete in the organization behind Elly.

What do we know about Dunn's arm? Is he a candidate for RF? If he's Friedl with more power and more speed, he's fine in a corner.

Scouting report says he hit 95 MPH as a pitcher so I'm guessing he has plenty of arm for RF.

Mat Nelson is nearly 25 years old and has struggled offensively since getting drafted. He's been disappointing on many levels-- that said, his last month has undoubtedly been his best as a pro. He's gone .279/ .338/ .500/ .838 in his last 28 days (74 PAs), not including a 2-4 night with his 17th HR on the 20th of August. In 14 August games, he's been even better: .327/ .393/ .600/ .993. I appreciate that Nelson continues to work on his craft in order to get better and hope this is the beginning of something interesting in his game.

Nelson went yard twice tonight, 17 and 18.

Tejay Antone pitched in consecutive games. He must be close.

A Dunn/ Fraley/ Friedl/ Benson/ Steer OF combination would certainly be productive, IMO. With the ability of Steer to shift to the IF and the DH, there's plenty of PAs for everyone, I suspect.

Rece Hinds is a great fit for the Reds, at minimum as a RH platoon outfielder.

He’d boost the team’s HR output at home. He’s one of those hitters whose well hit fly balls will regularly go over the GABP fences.

Reds shouldn’t be out-homered at home, a guy like this would help solve that.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

Hinds has put up MVP numbers since the start of June over a 50 games span. I'm curious if the Reds think the breakout is sustainable as he moves up or will they sell high in a trade this off season? The SO numbers have become more manageable over the hot streak with 58 SO in that 50 game stretch. The Reds could use a right hand power bat in the OF.
