    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

Julian Aguiar has figured out AA, methinks.

    12 K's. 1 ER. 7 IP. 0 BB.

In his last 31.1 IP, he's given up 6 ER. 33 Ks against 2 BB.

    Me likey.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Phillips went 6 tonight. Shutout baseball. 3 H. 1 BB. 6 K.

Were it not for Aguiar, that'd be the pitching line of the night.

Good to see. Phillips needed one like this.

Turning a guy like Aguiar(a 12th round draft pick in 2021) into a legit top 10 in the org prospect in two years is quite an accomplishment for the pitching development side of things. I'm excited to see what they do with all the arms that were drafted this year.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

Looking ahead to 2024, I'm guessing the Louisville rotation will be:
    Lyon Richardson
    Connor Phillips
    Juluan Aguiar
    Carson Spiers
    Christian Roa or Sam Benschoter

I've got Chattanooga, so far, as:
    Chase Petty
    Thomas Farr
    Hunter Parks
    Jose Acuna

Not sure if the last spot would go to Rhett Lowder, the loser of the Benschoter/ Roa campetition, Ty Floyd, Hunter Hollan, a minor league veteran free agent, or another Dayton guy like Carson Rudd or Javier Rivera. Too, maybe Levi Stoudt comes back to start, moving Aguiar down for a couple months.

    Opinions?

Regardless, that's a slew of solid to above average starters in the developmental pipeline. Some have upside. Some have high floors. Some are likely to be better in relief. Some need to be stretched out. Lots of options. Lots of different looks. Lots should be ready for a window of competition.

Spiers will be rule 5 eligible this winter and needs to be protected. The Reds made a swingman out of him this year, so I'm not sure they value him enough to protect him. I like him and would protect him.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

I don't think Lowder will be below AA for very long if at all. Assuming health Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft, Williamson and Abbott will be the big league rotation. That leaves Lively, Richardson, and Phillips for AAA without any SP additions. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those LHP on the MLB roster not named Abbott traded this off season as a part of a deal for a SP upgrade.

The minor league pitching in 2024 will be as loaded with talent as I can remember.

I suspect the 5th starter at Louisville next season will be Lively or someone fungible like him.

Lowder starting at AA makes all kinds of sense.

This also doesn't take into account any acquisitions at the major league level pushing someone back down to AAA (Williamson?).

Williamson shouldn’t go back to AAA. He belongs in a major league rotation at this point. If not for us, trade him for something better.

If Lowder is not in Chattanooga by Memorial Day, something has gone wrong.

Arroyo has (quietly) been outstanding these last 2 months.

    151 wRC+ since 7/7 from a SS who turned 20 only 8 days ago.

Glad we didn't trade him (or Marte) for SP help.

I hope they don't trade Williamson. I think he has the best stuff of anybody on the current ML roster, and he has made enormous progress this year. IMHO they will not get anything better for him.
