Chase Petty with 4 scoreless innings in his AA debut. The only baserunner came on an infield single.

One thing I like about Petty is that he hasn't given up a home run all season.

Henry Ramos’ second bomb of the night caused a horde of children to tackle one another and fight for the ball as if it was a fumble pile.

Agree. Was more saying that in response to a suggestion that he’ll begin next year in the minors. He has proven this year that he belongs in a major league rotation, hopefully that’s ours.

I still think they should go out and get a frontline veteran (meaning a number 3 or better). Ashcraft, Abbott and Greene should be locks. Williamson, Lodolo and Richardson should compete for the 5th spot, with Richardson being the long shot who probably starts out in AAA. If Williamson and Lodolo both pitch well, one should go the bullpen IMO. If Lodolo ends up being Norm Charlton, I'd be really happy with that.

I'm excited to see what Petty does when the 4 innings limit gets lifted(presumably next year). I think he's cut from that Cueto/Castillo mode of ground ball machine who strikes out enough guys to be really effective in GABP.

This will be the big debate of the off-season, both pitching and position players.

If Reds are emphasizing winning in 2024 it’s time to add a few high level veterans.

If Reds are sticking more closely to their youth plan for 2024, we’ll probably see more stop gap vets.

Blake Dunn had the second 20/50 season in Red minor league history. (At least the history dating back to 1960.)

Matheu Nelson put up an anti-Elly at the plate yesterday. He came up to bat 4 times, and walked all 4 times.

I'd like to see the addition of a veteran starter, preferably through FA. But I would not do that at the expense of Williamson's going to the pen. The kid is going to be a very good starting pitcher. He has the best mix of anybody on the staff and, at times, phenomenal location. The amount of improvement he's made over the last couple of months augurs very well. He could really surprise another team if we can get into the playoffs. JMHO

I like Williamson too, but I've seen too many pitchers put up a mirage for 15 or 20 starts at the beginning of their careers, so I wouldn't bet the season that these guys will all end up being solid starters. I'd go out and get one who has proven it for a longer period of time. If Williamson is as good as you and many think, he''ll end up in the rotation where he belongs. Cream rises to the top

Literally nobody should block the team from adding MLB pitching.

They could probably add two and still have Williamson open the year in the rotation with someone else not healthy to start the season.

And on the topic of this thread, still have plenty of innings that need to be filled by prospects who are ready to be broke in.

I would expect the Reds first to explore trades with teams deep in young pitching like Cleveland and Seattle. Perhaps nothing there, but that remains the best mileage.

High-end vets will be trickier and likely will depend on finding guys willing to sign two to three year deals. The Reds should have plenty of budget space in 2024 and 2025, but in 2026 and 2027 are going to get crunched, hard. The play is to go big money, over market even, on short term deals. The Reds have decent depth so for pitchers at least - they can take health risks, so that should help. Unfortunately, not clear which vets will bite.
