For sure! I'm used to the MiLB teams being the only thing worth tracking at this point.

Daytona SS, Johnny Ascanio, has also been promoted to Chattanooga.

Anybody know anything about Brooks Crawford, just recently promoted from Dayton to Chattanooga? How did we get him (seems to have come from Giants organization)? What's his rule 5 status? etc. He's 27 but it looks like he's been both a position player (LF) and pitcher who's now maybe focusing solely on pitching. Outstanding WHIPs at ever professional level. Low BB rates and the ability to work multiple innings.

He played some outfield in a collegiate summer league, but he was still first and foremost a pitcher this whole time. He was picked up from the minor league phase of the rule 5 draft. As you noted, he has been considerably older then the rest of the competition so far, and although he has solid results, nothing about his numbers stands out when compared to his peers. He simply looks like minor league depth, but you have to like what he has done to help with stability.

They cannot keep Jacob Hurtubise off base down in the I.L. In 97 PAs, he has reached 54 times. That works out to a .557 OBP.

Edwin Arroyo tripled on the first pitch that he saw at the AA level. Since then, he has added a single and been hit by a pitch.

I like the WHIPs. He gets the ball over the plate.

    Hurtibuse is an interesting story...

Kid went to Army...only one other Army grad has played pro baseball in the majors so it rare. He was able to delay his commission due to a policy change in 2019 by DOD. Kid seems to be thriving...nice feel good story.

Christian Roa pitched a gem tonight. 5 scoreless innings, 12 strike outs. Louisville hurlers punched out 21 batters on the night. Al Young fanned all three batters that he faced. Louisville won 2-0.

Blake Dunn came out of the game after one plate appearance last night, and is not in the lineup this evening.

It's wild how similar Joe Boyle and Roa have been this year.

Doug says Dunn is out for the year (the two games this weekend wrap the season) due to an unspecified arm issue.

Does Roa make his next start in a Reds uniform?

    Nah.

The Reds have Phillips, Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft, and Williamson to start the season, plus off-season free agent acquisitions (we can hope). This ignores AAAA guys like Lively (who's done enough to be a sixth starter, IMO, and has more cheap team control) and Kennedy (ditto, but deeper starter depth). Not only that, Lyon Richardson is also probably ahead of Roa as a starting candidate.

I would, however, love to see if Roa can transform into an effective late-inning relief pitcher. He and Stoudt might be interesting in that role-- but they first have to be put in that role.
