Reds' ACL club wins again. They're 3-1 on the season. Ricardo Cabrera got on base three times today-- two hits and a BB. He's hitting .357 with a 1.143 OPS while playing both 3B and SS. He also stole his 2nd base of the season. Iverson Espinoza also had two hits.

Duno and Cabrera, along with Collier, have me excited for the lower minors/Reds teenagers’ future.

CES HR yet again. 1-1 now hitting .360

Arroyo 2-2 (in the first inning) so far with a HR. Up to .243 from .180 a few weeks ago. Dayton with 8 hits and 8 runs in the first inning. That's 3 games worth of scoring for them.

There seems to be no middle ground with Christian Roa. Good Roa showed up tonight: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K.

Louisville has scored 7 times so far in the 5th.
    Henry Ramos 2-3, hitting .327.
Joey Votto and Wil Myers are both hitless.
Chuckie Robinson with 2 hits, including home run number 7. He is averaging .342 now.
Matt Reynolds with 2 hits, including his 9th homer on the season.

One-time wunderkind, Touki Toussaint, has faced six hitters and all six have reached.

How does Votto look against high velocity? I noticed the HR came off a breaking ball, and I suspect it'll be high velo that gives him the most trouble in his comeback. Kinda silly that CES isn't up yet, but something something Kevin Newman or whatever.

I've watched 3 of Roa's starts this year and he's got all the pitches but seems to be lacking in the mental toughness part of it. He is not only streaking game to game but he's also a guy who can be sailing along only to give up 5 in an inning. If he can figure out how to bounce back bad stretches he could be interesting.

Meanwhile the Bats exploded for 8 in the 5th inning Robinson and Reynolds join CES with HR's. CES had an RBI single in that big inning as well. Votto squeezed a single through the infield and has a hit and a BB so far.

Dayton score 8 on 8 hits in the first inning. No hits or runs since. Still leading 8-3 in the 6th.

Not great. He's been behind some of the better fast balls tonight. His motion/follow through on his swing seems limited as well. Hoping for the best but he looks a long way away.

Yeah that's rough. I wonder how long he'll give it if he just physically isn't there. I really don't want to see a 60% shell of his former self Votto as his last games in a Reds uni. Maybe for a few week run at the end of the year if the Reds are out of it, but not for months.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

I've praised his season a bunch in the past, and I'll continue to do so here: Chris McElvain has allowed a couple of BBs in 4 innings of three-K shutout baseball so far today. He's down to 2.78 on the year in 45.1 IP. Decent K totals. Decent BB totals. Good WHiP. He's in the top 10 of the FSL in ERA (5), IP (8), WHiP (8), and Ks (10).

If the Reds do push guys at the halfway point of the season or when the new draftees are signed, McElvain likely deserves a shot in Dayton this year. At 22, he's likely old enough to handle it too.

Not sure if he's at the same level of prospectdom as, say, Aguiar, Acuna, or Petty, but I think he's in that next echelon down, for sure.

    Arroyo's last month has been exceptional: .291/ .326/ .500/ .826

That his OPS is still below .700 tells you how poorly he played in the first month and a half of the season.
