The DSL Reds win their afternoon game, 6-5. They're 5-2 on the season.

Yoycel Soriano (2-5), Alfredo Duno (1-3 with a BB), and Gilberto Rojas (2-4) carried the offense.

Alfredo Alcantara enjoyed his first professional game by going 1-3. He was a rather large bonus baby from the Dominican.

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

    Connor Phillips with a fairly impressive outing: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 12 K.

After a slow start to AA, Blake Dunn seems to be catching on. 2 for 2 tonight to go along with an HBP. Dunn also stole two bases. OPS is up to .823.

Louisville is being taken to the woodshed. They trail 15-7.

CES with a double and two walks.
Nick Senzel 2 for 3 with a walk.
Joey Votto has walked twice and hit a sac fly.
Matt Reynold and Wil Myers each with a 3-run blast.

Tony Santillan struck out the first batter that he faced. Three line-drive singles later, he was heading for the shower.

Phillips is the youngest pitcher on the Lookouts staff. Over his past 5 starts he has walked 6 with 49 K's. If he keeps this up I wouldn't move him unless it's in a deal for a stud MLB SP.

Rece Hinds has found his stroke. His 4-4 day included two HR, one of which was the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th.

He's up to .239 on the season, with a .731 OPS.

Over the last two games, he's 8-9 with 3 HR. More importantly, he's not struck out in four straight games.

No. 17 Reds prospect Rece Hinds delivers with a two-homer performance, including a two-run walk-off in the 10th for Double-A Chattanooga

    Re: Midsummer Notes & Thoughts

Connor Phillips has 101 Ks on the season.

The next-best mark in the Southern League is held by Christian Roa, with 74.

Phillips is in the top 10 of the Southern League in IP, Ks, GS, HBP, WP, BF, K/9, and K:BB.

His BB/9 is down to 3.6. His BB% is 9%. His K% is at nearly 40%.

Right now, I'd argue he's probably been the best pitcher in the league, all things considered.

And he's found a new level over his last 3 starts.

Phillips should probably be moved up to AAA at this point, and the Bat obviously (and desperately) need him. I'm guessing it happens at the halfway point of the minor league season.

I would like to see him moved up to AAA soon just to see him with a regular ball instead of the pre-tack ball they are trialing in AA. Does anyone know what type of velocity he has been showing. It looks like he is throwing gas but I can’t tell for sure

As I said in another thread, I'm not trading Connor Phillips for anybody.
