Even scuffling, he’s drawing walks, stealing bases and scoring. Hard to complain as he learns to adjust.

Because he has a combination of physical gifts that we've never seen in a single player in the Statcast era coupled with legitimate baseball IQ. And most real prospects his age are somewhere in High A ball.

He has a good concept of the strike zone and fields well. As soon as he learns to hit the curve, he will be great. Don't expect him to hit over .230 this year but look out next.

This man singled on a line drive fielded immediately by the first baseman.

I have genuinely never seen the like.
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

Elly is far better, but yes you have
Hamilton had that kind of game changing speed. If only he could hit... Ah what could have been.

Great patience on that last at-bat. He exudes so much energy in the game, but is calm at the plate.

This might be a weird comp, but Elly reminds me of Randy Moss when he was entering the league. Just a freak of nature athlete.

I can definitely see that. Makes me wonder how good Elly would be a a WR.

Respectfully, I never saw Hamilton hit short hop line drive to the first baseman and beat it out. You didn't either. I literally meant, I have never seen that play.

The fastest Reds of my lifetime to my eye/memory in order before EDLC:

    Eric Davis
    Joe Morgan
    Deion Sanders
    Billy Hamilton

In that order. And not one of them , not one, did what I saw EDLC do today on that first hit. Not even Eric Davis.

    Funniy thing about that….

    Eric Davis - 6’2”
    Joe Morgan - 5’7”
    Deion Sanders - 6’1”
    Billy Hamilton - 6’0”

    Then there’s Elly at 6’5”.

Re: Welcome to The Show Elly De La Cruz!

EDLC still has a ways to do to be a consistent hitter it seems. His average on what mere mortals can do is probably 50 points lower. His athleticism is closing the gap. This how he started last season and this season in the minors. When he adjusts and starts figuring things out he's take those jumps we've seen the last 2 years in the minors up here.

When you compare him to CES it makes what CES has been doing even more impressive. He's not getting singles on sharp grounder to the first baseman... The two of them in the middle of the line up will finish this teams run and thump line-up.

As for the play to first today. I've not seen anyone do that. I do remember Dion singling a couple times on routine balls to the second basemen and Davis doubling on singles to the RF'er.

Fair enough. I saw Hamilton score from 3rd on a popup to 2b.
