A Supermoon occurs when the moon is full at the time the moon is at, or near its perigee, or closest approach to Earth. It must be within 90% of its closest approach to be classified as a Supermoon. There are four Supermoons in 2023---one in July, two in August, and one in September. The moon is about 31,200 miles closer to us at perigee than when it's farthest from us. So, a Supermoon that occurs at perigee is about 14% larger and 30% brighter than at apogee. This Supermoon coming up at the end of the month will be the biggest and brightest of the year(this full moon will occur when the moon is closer to us than any other full moon this year).

A Blue Supermoon is a more rare occurrence. They occur, on average , once ever 10 to 20 years, with the time between them being somewhat irregular. The next Blue Supermoon will occur in March of 2037. There will, in fact, be two that year(see, how irregular they are , lol)
We took our sailboat out and watched it rise over the hills of Southern Indiana. It didn't disappoint.

Its the mathematical potential for a single game to last forever, in a suspended world where no clock rules the day, that aligns baseball as much with the dead as the living.

Anyone planning on traveling to see the eclipse on April 8? I will probably be heading to Indiana, depending on the forecast around that time. Unless you are a world traveler, it will be the best chance you will have to see a total solar eclipse , probably in your lifetime.. DON'T MISS IT!!!

APOCOLYPTIC WARNING FOR CIVILIZATION -- 14,300 yr. old tree reveals largest ever recorded solar storm

In the French Alps, researchers discovered evidence of a powerful solar storm within the rings of a 14,300-year-old tree. This evidence suggests that this solar storm was much stronger than the Carrington Event of 1859, which had significant impacts on the telegraph systems of its time.

    Re: ASTRONOMY Thread

Btw, for those that might not be aware of the near miss back a few years ago, the Earth missed by about a week of a direct hit by a CME(Coronal Mass Ejection) in July of 2012 that was on the level of the Carrington Event of 1859. It would have had MAJOR negative implications for our society. It's only a matter of time, folks. It's not a matter of if it will happens, but when. The image below is the 2012 storm.
