I think when you factor in that we get to keep Fraley, CES, and Steer - holding on to Gray and Castillo at the expense of Marte, Petty, and Arroyo is starting to look like maybe a better short-term play. Don’t get me wrong - I’m happy with those guys - and in the case of Marte at least - we may even get some star power out of those deals.

But the 2023 Reds minus Marte plus Gray and Castillo probably win 90+ games.

I would pay real money to hear this song at Busch Stadium on October 1st as the Reds lose to the Cards, but make the playoffs anyway.

If they make the playoffs it’ll be because 3 other teams choked more. I can’t see a team running on fumes that requires its pitching staff to be near perfect to win having one last sprint in them. We shall see.

We knew this going into the season, that the Reds would be terrible, and yet here we are, observing that they are now solidly mediocre, hoping to be less so than two other teams to make it into the post season.

This team has surprised continually, and although I do feel the chances are slim, I won't bet against them being shut out of the playoffs. And if they make it, they likely won't last, but I'll take it after where they were this time last year.

The Giants are likely done so that's one more team out of the way. The Padres have come on strong, but the best they can do is 84-78.

Despite the Reds dropping two straight, the Cubs have done us a favor and left the door open. And when someone like the Cubs leaves the door open, the only way to respond is to kick it down and run them over.

Sweep the Pirates this weekend, and we'll be back in business.

I can't ever recall this kind of situation. Based on the teams performance it feels like its been over for weeks, yet here they are refusing to go away like the action hero who won't fall off the train despite repeated beatings.
