They’ll re-sign Votto and get a Mike Minor. Payroll will look similar to this year’s. Around 80 million.

Reds pulled in the most fans since 2015, just over 2 million.

I selected 101-125. I won’t say how I arrived at that guess so as to avoid being told exactly how I’m wrong.

I think the entire reason for the rebuild was to take as much profit as they can for the foreseeable future, which means not replacing the money that they at least spent on Moose. That puts them at around $70 million at most. They’ll really try to sell the fans on coming out to see the kids play and get better. At $70 they’ll be able to afford a TOR and some bullpen help.

Lots of votes for $76MM+.
This would mean the Reds adding ~$40MM in payroll from outside the organization this winter.
Two questions:
1. What pending free agents/trade targets make sense for the Reds?
2. What about the strategy of the FO since the work stoppage makes you believe they significantly add to their obligations this off-season?
I’ll answer #2.
Krall has specifically said that the increased attendance gives them more money to spend. That was at the deadline, and about this year’s payroll, so we can’t assume that will carryover to next year’s payroll. But it is a reason to believe that they will base next season’s payroll on this year’s attendance and attendance rose this year, significantly.
But for me, the biggest reason to believe that the Reds will change their spending philosophy next season, is that Phil has been silent, and Bob has been doing all the talking, after the infamous Rosie Red luncheon. Bob as always been sensitive to fan criticism, and I think all the “sell the team, Bob” talk worked.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m rooting for your side here. It’s just that if Reds 2024 payroll approaches their 2023 payroll, it will mean they’ll have to be among the most active teams in MLB free agency this winter. I’m just having a difficult time picturing that.
Are we thinking Montgomery? Nola? Hader? Snell?
How can the Reds outbid the market on enough long-term deals that they’ll end up adding $40MM to the 2024 payroll? They’re not going to sign anyone to a six-figure deal. It’s going to take four or five mediocre veterans on short-term deals to reach the threshold everyone is voting for.
