Is Acuna the most surprising omission from the list of additions?

He was only in A ball, so maybe they figured he’d have a hard time being ready in three years and a low likelihood other teams pounce.

The Reds aren't participating in the draft, but if they were, my top targets would be Angel Bastardo and Cole Wilcox. I can't argue with the Reds staying out of the draft this year.

How do you know they aren't participating?

Don’t they have to have an open spot on the 40 man roster in order to participate? Or will a couple spots be freed up via trade between now and then?

Correct. If the 40-man roster is full, you're not allowed to make picks.

There will be open spots by Monday when they non-tender Senzel, Law, maybe Sims and Young.

    https://www.mlb.com/reds/news/rule-5...ayed-with-team

I'm just posting this link to make sure people don't get too excited about the rule 5 draft. It lists each team's most recent rule 5 draftee who stuck with the team. For the Reds, it was Stuart Turner.
The Twins had taken Turner out of Mississippi in the third round of the 2013 Draft, and he had spent the '16 season in Double-A. The Reds took a shot at the catcher, and he appeared in 37 games with Cincinnati in '17 while also spending a month on the injured list. He hasn’t been back to the big leagues since, spending '18 and '19 mostly with the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate in Louisville while battling injuries.

    Reds passed their pick FWIW.

Hopefully the Reds will draft someone in the AAA Phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

Seth Beer got claimed. Remember when Redszone clamored for him? He's 27 I think.
