    Reds non-tender Senzel

    Reds To Non-Tender Nick Senzel

The Reds are non-tendering Nick Senzel, tweets Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer. The former #2 overall pick had posted a farewell message to the organization on Instagram this evening.

Ahead of the 8 pm non-tender deadline, Nick Senzel put this on Instagram. It’s not surprising the Reds have non-tendered Senzel. Still, personally, the amount of growth I’ve seen from Nick the last few years makes me thing there are good things ahead for him
Not sure what growth he's referring to exactly.

He destroyed LHP, so he'll find a nice landing spot.

Already preparing myself for everything to come together for him and avoiding injuries in his next uniform...

I'm thinking his humility rate stats have gone up and the addition of family to him has made his redarse average drop while his human being rate has risen.

Sorry to see Senzel go, I’ll be rooting for him in his new situation. As for the Reds, that payroll keeps getting lighter. Wonder if they’ll drop a few additional millions with other non-tenders.

If that happens, it happens. He clearly wasn't going to do that as a Red. But I agree, I think he'll find something with another team fairly quickly.

A non-tender sends a player directly to free agency without being placed on waivers. The 28-year-old can now explore opportunities with other teams.

Senzel’s status as a former top prospect and career .286/.334/.459 line with the platoon advantage could find him a big league deal elsewhere.

The Nationals, A’s, Royals, Diamondbacks and Tigers stand out as speculative candidates for a flier on a third baseman

I think between his ability to hit left handers and his glove he will find somewhere. He had such a crazy ride with us. He never lived up to the hype of such a high pick but the club didn’t do him any favors moving him around and injuries killed him. Just seems despite all the chances he got the deck was stacked against him at times.

Despite all advice and warning, Senzel went quietly into that goodnight.

So, we can now participate in the Rule 5 draft.

His availability problem was a major issue, plus his seemingly unwillingness to adjust until his job was on the line was the other. Senzel never earned most of his Starts the last few years.

I think all of our other injuries played a role as well. We needed someone to plug in and Senzel was there to fit that role. And I don’t mean to knock the guy just seemed like he had experience and could bat and field somewhat adequately and so he was called on. I would imagine it will probably be the same wherever he ends up signing.

Senzel embraced a move to CF just as he became MLB-ready. He did so willingly at a time he was just reaching the major leagues. After stellar college and minor league careers as an infielder.

That reflects a “willingness to adjust.”

Senzel always was said to be a hard worker who came back from injuries several times. What is the basis for him being unwilling to adjust?

I hope and expect Senzel will excel somewhere else. That being said it is the first time in his career Senzel is described as non-tender.
