If UM is offering him that contract right now (which they obviously are), he ought to get that immunity with respect to the current situation/scandal. Michigan knows what's going on, so if they're going to offer him the contract now they should bear the risk of that situation. I think this is a big factor. I've heard multiple analysts talk about how they think that Michigan's run first offense, while obviously effective, didn't allow McCarthy to get into a rhythm, and so he never really got into a rhythm in games. Who knows if that's true, but we will find out.

I see that Tim Murphy is retiring at Harvard after 30 years. Makes me feel old, because I remember him being a pretty good coach at UC. That's a move you'd never see a coach make these days!
