Duke Tobin during the live interview during the 2nd series of the game.
We obviously have to iron some things out Defensively.
That's for sure.
I think a lot of that is the same issue as last year...communication. It's going to take more than one pre-season series with Geno Stone to get the communication down. Wish Wilson was better at it, but it doesn't seem like he is very good at it. By Game 4, Game 5, we should see some pretty solid Defense thanks to the communication improvements overall led by Geno Stone and supported by his Lieutenant Vonn Bell. That's great and all, but that's communication coming from the 3rd level. Who's going to stand up and take responsibility for the communication at the 2nd level and 1st level? It's Wilson's responsibility, and he's proven he's not up to the task. Can Pratt be that guy? He wasn't last season. Hendrickson is definitely the likely guy at the 1st level. Having lost the great D J Reader, we've replaced him with another excellent Defensive Tackle in Sheldon Rankins. It's going to be something that I'm watching to find out if there's a good communicator on the Defensive Front Line.

Not sure what Tony Cloninger was whining about. They were extremely pro-active once again, in obtaining all of the things they needed during the off-season, including an established very good RT for the present, and the potential of a long-term answer at RT by using their only 1st Round pick on one, too, thereby doubling up on the RT spot. They added an extension to one of their interior linemen, they were able to retain their quality backup QB. The list is extremely long of all of the great off-season moves they made. This ain't your Daddy's Cincinnati Bengals.

It ain’t whining to ask why they did not move on from Carmen and signed a G for depth. Having Trent stay healthy is an issue. And Mims hurting his pecs is not something that won’t linger. When you’re trying to block DE in this division alone. If you’re happy with this OL depth that’s fine. I’m not seeing what you are.
How did Wilson lose his ability to communicate between 2022 and last year? Someone was doing it in the 2nd tier in 2021-22.
Starters won't play in Chicago, though I think the Defensive Starters should play the 1st series.
I certainly hope the Starters play the entire 1st Quarter of preseason game 3 for the Offense and the entire 1st Half of preseason game 3 for the Defense.

Yes, it is whining to ask why they did not move on from Carmen. It would take an essay to explain it to you because I'd have to post multiple paragraphs on the positives of every candidate who can start at LG, why they should get the opportunity and why all of them should get the opportunity at backup Guard on both sides.
Wilson should have taken over for communications overall on the Defense last season and the Defensive Communication was atrocious, with Logan being as bad as anyone considering it was his responsibility. He wasn't good at it in 2022. That was Jessie Bates who led the communication of the Defense. With Bates gone and Dax Hill being very young and inexperienced at it, Wilson needed to step up, and he didn't. He was a complete failure at it. Time and time againt yesterday plays were being made for big gains behind Wilson. The middle was being left open. The communication on Defense, which the entire organization during the off-season pointed out was the team's biggest problem, was really bad yesterday. Geno Stone was brought in for one reason and one reason only...to lead the communication of the Defense. While that is Stone's responsibility, and it wasn't good yesterday, it doesn't take away the responsibility of Wilson, as the most experienced player at the 2nd level, to communicate things when he sees something that Stone has missed. Communication is a two-way street. Stone can tell the 2nd level and 1st level what to switch to and what to expect, but Wilson, and whoever is leading the communication of the 1st level, both need to be relaying back to Stone what they see if it's different. They didn't do that yesterday, obviously, as the Defense was completely abused by Tampa Bay's 2nd Unit Offense.

The defense was abused with pretty much all backups after the first drive at that point. But sure I agree that it needs to better than last year. Surprised he was an issue when he looks and talks like a leader.
I’m sorry that you would have to explain something that you think is so obvious. Carmen plays like he does not give a S*%+ about playing football. Yes I believe they should have moved on from someone that lazy. With 19 million still left in cap space. No matter how much you want to keep rolling it over some of that could have been used to get a better player. Just ridding yourself of his negative play is a plus. If you don’t agree and think he deserved another chance that’s great.
You don’t have to explain to me why you think it was beneficial to keep him when no one on any Bengal blog or podcast has anything positive to say about him at this point. If you actually have a paragraph about his positives. That’s great.
Let's start with the blatantly obvious that you are missing here..... Who is Carmen? A guy who is 4th on the Tackle depth chart. You don't even know who you are talking about, yet you claim to know everything about how the guy plays and how every website feels about him? You don't even know the name of the guy you are trying to talk about? Are you talking about Volson? You lost all credibility right there.
The depth chart, just so you can start from the beginning and see the names of the players who are playing. Then when you read a website, as you claim to be an expert of all of them, then you can see who those websites are referring to by name.
LOT Orlando Brown Jr., Jackson Carman, Devin Cochran
LG Cordell Volson, Jaxson Kirkland
C Ted Karras, Trey Hill, Nate Gilliam, Matt Lee
RG Alex Cappa, Cody Ford, Eric Miller
ROT Trent Brown, Amarius Mims, D'Ante Smith

There's that Carmen guy again that you think plays Guard and needs to be replaced on the Guard depth chart.
Frank Pollack assured the veteran Trent Brown can.
"What do we have? A month before the opener? He'll be ready then," Pollack said after practice. "He's not ready tomorrow. He's got a whole month, and he looked pretty (bleeping) good today for his first day." His spring practice was cut short by attending to personal issues and he couldn't practice right away at training camp with soreness, but Pollack knew he'd have him when he needed him. "He's got something to fall back on and recall and come right to it. It's just shaking the rust off," Pollack said of last Thursday's practice. "When we were in the stadium, I think it was the very first rep in one-on-one. I was teasing him. 'Is that all the rust you needed to shake off is just one quick rep and you're good to go?' Ever since then, he's been pretty impressive."

Trent Brown's personal opinion of where he's at?
"I guess that's good they think I look good because I feel like I'm a fish out of water," Brown said. "I'm not up to my standards. It's just a matter of getting used to the communication, the snap count, and getting my feet back under me. Once it all comes together, I'll be fine. But I'm not there yet."
Brown is also mentoring to Mims everything he thinks the kid can handle..

Mims was certainly getting there with the help of Brown. The two were velcroid together on the sidelines after Mims' encouraging first 15 snaps in the preseason opener. "I'm giving him all my wisdom," Brown said. "He was playing lights out. He has the tools to be as good, if not better than me. It stinks he's got an ailment, but I think he'll hit the ground running as soon as he gets back."
What an amazing two additions to the Tackle spots, especially Right Tackle, that the Bengals' front office added this off-season! The Bengals have a class-A front office and a top-five in the league when it comes to managing the roster and improving it from year to year.

Orange pants were introduced yesterday. Thursday night 12/19 vs the Browns.
I know what position he plays. It doesn’t matter if he plays Center. He should not have been considered for a roster spot. If you can’t see how disinterested this player is. The most lazy player with talent I have seen since James Francis then you just want to win every discussion.
They already have 2 backup T. Mims and Ford. They needed a backup Guard. So instead of keeping Carmen. Who I know plays T. Using some of that 19 million to get a better backup Guard would have been advisable.
If you think this OL is set no issues here with the backup situation. Then no point in going on.
Hendrickson, in only his 2nd Day of pads for training camp, was the Player-of-the-Day per Hobson.
Nice to have him back.
"That's what he does. One of the elite players in our league. I love him," Anarumo said. "A rare guy at that position. We had a good day. He had a good day."
