If Miley isn't ready early on, he may just come in like a wrecking ball later. Don't you ever say he just walked away

The ongoing about how the Brewers just manage to find the people they need has been based on finding people to compliment the people they already had. That core is not getting younger except in places where it's still really new. If you are grasping for pitchers in the first week of March, you have two choices -- welcome to the world the Reds inhabited for all the Price years.

Matt Chapman to SF 3yr 54 MM with opt outs.

Certainly not a fit here but I’m glad no one else in the NLC got him for that.

Honestly, that seems like a fair contract for what he does. He's an okay hitter with a good glove who's about to turn 31.

He’s been pretty much just a guy offensively since his shoulder injury. It’s been like four years now and he’s on the wrong side of 30, so I’m guessing what he showed last year is basically what he is. He can bat 5th or 6th in a playoff lineup and he’s Arenado-level elite defensively.

That .663 2nd half OPS last year didn’t help him. Still, good signing for the Giants. If he puts up a big offensive year, he’s a 6-WAR player. If he doesn’t, he still provides tremendous defensive value.

Then there's MacArthur (the team that signs him could even offer to name their park for him).

Brewers Sign Kevin Herget To Minor League Deal
The Brewers recently signed right-hander Kevin Herget to a minor league contract. He’s in big league camp and made his spring debut yesterday, tossing a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts against Texas.

Herget became a minor league free agent at the start of last offseason. The 32-year-old had logged a career-high MLB workload with the Reds a season ago.

Chapman supposedly turned down a 10 year, 150 million offer in 2019 from the A's. He supposedly turned down an offer over $100 from Toronto. Boras didn't do him any good (of course, Chapman's gamble that he'd produce at his Oakland numbers didn't help either, his decision to say no deal to those suitcases of cash weren't helped by injuries and a high k rate).
    Where we gonna go?

Yeah. I don't blame Boras as much. Chapman bet on himself and lost. He was pretty terrible at the plate from May through the end of the season last year. He's still a good addition in SF.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Yeah 3/54 for Chapman is pretty brutal. The guy is coming off a 4.4 WAR gold glove season.

Not cooked per se, but he certainly won't be able to apply his method to every FA he takes to market. The clubs are running their own numbers and they are saying that the payback for FA are not always good and that the length is a major issue when yoiu are confronted with players that don't raise the water level drastically themselves. If anything he will need to reshape part of his approach, which will be hard for him since I'm sure he thinks he is correct 100% of the time, but the market is shifting, adapt or die

His OPS by month is a mess though

    1.152
    .585
    .633
    .908
    .532
    .633

And now he's entering his age 31 season. The opt outs are his boost, his bat doesn't deserve a giant long-term contract based on his last three seasons

    Bryan Hoch ⚾️
    @BryanHoch

Gerrit Cole was no fan of Daniel Vogelbach's slow trot in the 1st inning.

“Yeah, what’s the day? Are we still in February? March 1st? Yeah, he enjoyed that homer.”

Asked if he would remember Vogelbach’s trot during the season, Cole replied: “I don’t forget a lot of things.”
Let's hope Cole wasn't being serious, otherwise it's pretty laughable to get upset about anything like this during ST.

Also, how fast does he think Vogelbach can even run?

His last 3 seasons total 11.4 WAR, with 2 gold gloves and 71 HR. The Reds will be lucky if one of their young IF turns out to have a career as good as Chapman.
