    Yeah, it'll be interesting.

He had a 4.64 FIP the last two seasons as a starter with San Diego. (3.80 FIP as a reliever in that same time)

Martinez in the rotation is likely temporary. Lodolo is getting ready fast.

My theory on Martinez is he’s pitched 110 innings most recent seasons, Reds want that from him this year. Several starts mixed in with bullpen work will get there.

Later in season, I’m not even sure Martinez will be the first choice to fill a rotation opening. Williamson hopefully will be healthy, Phillips is developing, other “true starters” will be ready. In the end, I think Martinez will mostly be a reliever.

Cincinnati Reds Starter Nick Lodolo Makes Interesting List

Nick Lodolo was one of 10 underrated MLB players that are ready to explode in 2024 according to Bleacher Report.

The 26-year-old has pitched well this spring and should be a big part of the Reds' rotation if he can stay healthy. He hasn't pitched in a regular season game since last May, but is projected to make his first start sometime next month.

2 Outings of 2 innings each every week will have him end with 104 IP. I think the Reds can easily get the number of innings they want from him. He's starting because Lodolo is late, but he seems to be a lot better in relief. Martinez in the rotation should be an emergency option only IMO.

    I agree with your post.

    Dreaming of the October rotation...

Montas, Lodolo, and Abbott going through the lineup twice.

Greene and Ashcraft cutting it loose and throwing flames for 3 innings (sprinkle in Williamson / Wilson for some tough left outs).

Martinez and Diaz closing the door.

    I agree with your post.
I’d guess Martinez will get his “additional” innings starting say 7-8 games this season. Nobody get 100+ innings throwing only relief. It may be possible, but it would be most unusual.

I’ll take a 4.64 ERA out of the 4th/5th starters slot. That’s around a 2 run difference from last year.

It's the strength of this team. If the rotation can stay healthy they'll make a run at a playoff spot.

And that is without Lodolo as well. When he is ready to come back hopefully he can step in and bump up the profile of this group even more. That Phillies lineup is packed with good players and it was very heartening to watch our rotation pass such a tough early test.

Reds starter Nick Lodolo to make long-awaited return in Game 2 of series with White Sox
The Reds will look to keep rolling behind Lodolo, who missed much of the 2023 season with a stress fracture in his left tibia. He started the season with Triple-A Louisville and most recently pitched there on Sunday. He was limited to seven starts in 2023 after making 19 starts covering 103 1/3 innings as a rookie in 2022.

The White Sox have been held to one run or fewer in seven of 13 games this season. On Saturday, they’ll aim to lend support to their top pitcher to date.

Left-hander Garrett Crochet (1-1, 2.00 ERA) has struck out 21 batters in 18 innings this season. He is coming off Sunday’s no-decision against the Kansas City Royals, when he scattered two runs and three hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked none.

Chicago continues to be cautious with Crochet, a converted reliever who has contended with injury concerns to start his career.

    Re: 2024 Starting Pitchers Rotation

The Cincinnati Reds have activated left-handed pitcher Nick Lodolo from the 15-day injured list, the team announced Saturday morning.

Lodolo will serve as the Reds' starter against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. In order to make room for the lefty on the big league roster, Cincinnati optioned right-handed pitcher Carson Spiers to Triple-A Louisville.
