Did you hear it hit him? He threw the ball to first with no feeling in his hand. I am just glad it's not a fracture.

Montas is probably only going to miss 2 starts. He can pitch on the first day he's activated. It just means that start gets pushed back a couple of days.

They knew he needed to miss one start and the bullpen was gassed, so they decided to IL him, give him plenty of time and add another arm to the pen. I much prefer that approach to playing shorthanded for 10 or 15 days. Leaving him active would have been the old regime's method for leaving a guy in AAA to save a little money.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

    Happy Nick Lodolo Day!

How comforting it is to say that.

Reds lead the Central in run differential (tied for 4th in the NL). Lowest total runs against in the Central. And reinforcements are still coming! Montas, Friedl, Marte, Williamson.

Before the season started, I had to squint pretty hard to see a viable playoff starting pitcher rotation...but I'm not squinting quite as much lately. If the two of them keep progressing, throwing Greene-Lodolo out there for Game 1 and Game 2 looks pretty good now.

Rhett Lowder will join the rotation next season.

Today is a big game for Ashcraft. He needs to break his good/bad cycle. He was good last time out. Not great, but good. He needs a little run. SD is a nice team to face if you want some K's. He's been very good at preventing free passes and has the K rate I was hoping for, above 8.

Ashcraft might be the bridge to Lowder, with the Reds maybe keeping Montas. Hard to say right now, but today is big for him and the Reds IMO.

Exactly what he needed. Win or lose if Ashcraft can go 6 and only have 2 runs cross the plate, that's a good thing.

    Re: 2024 Starting Pitchers Rotation

I’m buying on Ashcraft. He’s improving his K/BB/GB combo this year. That combo can be quite successful with a GABP team. Look at Cueto’s stats for Reds, that trio of numbers carried him to great success.

Ashcraft also is capable of 6 or 7 solid innings, over his career he’s shown that.

He’s still not there. In particular, he has to continue his improved bat missing. But IMO he can be a solid MLB #3 starter if he simply continues his current level of development. Like all, he needs to stay healthy and keep refining his game.

Cincinnati Reds' Starting Rotation a Major Bright Spot During Rough Stretch

The Reds have gotten plenty out of their starting rotation. Andrew Abbott leads the way with a 3.06 ERA in nine starts. Hunter Greene isn't far behind (3.22). Frankie Montas has had his ups and downs, but Nick Lodolo and Grahama Ashcraft have been solid. Throw in Nick Martinez and this rotation has been as good anyone could've hoped in the first two months of the season.

    Reds in Four @RedsInFour
Imagine being told the #Reds would be 19-27 with a starting rotation of:

    - Greene 10 GS, 3.22 ERA
    - Abbott 9 GS, 3.06 ERA
    - Montas 8 GS, 4.37 ERA
    - Ashcraft 9 GS, 4.25 ERA
    - Lodolo 6 GS, 3.34 ERA
    - Martinez 4 GS, 4.23 ERA

I feel like this thread should have more activity. The Reds have a top-10 rotation at this point.

Far more important than who manages.
