Going for two on the road is always a good thing, and you're attempting to remove the umpiring equation from the game where they would have numerous opportunities to tilt things against you. In this case, they ignored three Defensive penalties in one play. How many would they have avoided or called against the Bengals had there been 15 plays to do so?

It was the right call to go for the win. Plus, the Bengals are in desperation mode. They needed to walk out of there with a win. Going for two was their best chance. Their Field Goal kicking unit has been struggling,...not exactly the kind of thing you want to go in with in an OT game.

They've been able to make it work because they hit home runs in the draft on defense, they have one of the greatest HCs and DCs of all time. Combination of good organization and good draft variance.

The Bengals would be crazy to let an elite WR go when they're already going to lose Tee. They need to get the defense to the level of mediocre, and they shouldn't need to sacrifice everything on offense to make that happen.

They also gave one of the best TEs of all time, helping make up for the lack of WR production. Take Kelce anway and their success decreases quite a bit, IMO.

They also have a QB who often gets 15 bonus yards when hit compared to Burrow who sometimes gets blasted late while officials do nothing about it.how many extra yards have they gained over the years?

Good point. For the Chiefs, they chose to give up one of their version of Higgins and Chase. Bengals can't lose both in the same season.

They are going to do what they’d re going to do regardless.

You could miss and put more pressure on yourself the rest of the year. Take the extra point. If it was with 1 second or the 2 was the difference between the ravens having to get a TD instead of a FG it makes sense.

I said right before the play go for one and there would have to be a dead body on the field for a penalty to be called…..sure enough.

Chase is currently the best WR in football and he's only 24. In no reasonable scenario should they be looking to trade him especially considering how poorly the Bengals draft in the first round, unless it's a very high pick no brainer pick like Burrow or Chase.

I foresee Burrow and Chase playing togethers for another 5+ years after this season.

Tyreek was pretty much the best receiver in the NFL at the time he was here. He's had a couple good years in Miami but this year he's been an anomaly.

Receivers lives in the NFL are not long. We can draft younger talent (WRs the Bengals have actually had luck with drafting) and put the money that we would spend on Chase and Higgins into the defense.

Id rather it be someone else's mistake trading for Chase in his prime and then having to eat the cap space when he's too expensive and can't produce at a high level.

I mostly agree but losing both Higgins and Chase in the same off season would be a lot. I'd rather sign Chase for 3 years, use a 2nd round pick on a receiver (with the plan that we'd have at least another receiver similar to Higgins before saying goodbye to Chase), and use most of the rest of the draft for the defense (and maybe an offensive lineman).

Lets not forget that Tyreek had some pretty serious character issues as well. Also, during the time they traded Tyreek, they had a HOF TE in his prime, which helped offset the loss of Tyreek. At the same time, the Chiefs have struggled to fill the void of Tyreek at WR.

Good point. And, Hill was 27 at the time of the trade, 3 years older than Chase. Then, Hill went on to dominate the NFL the next 2 years with over 1700 yards each season. Superstars don’t grow on tress and you should hang on to them at all costs.

Did some of you not learn the lesson with Jessie Bates? When the Bengals have a good young player, they should absolutely give them the second contract. Heck, the Bengals have yet to solve their issues at guard since letting Kevin Zeitler go, and that was eight seasons ago. You end up spending more resources trying to replace those guys than had you simply paid them.

The Chiefs were willing to pay Tyreek to a point, but not for what he was asking. And they knew they had to pay Chris Jones, too. There's nobody on this roster outside of Chase worth paying. Thinking you'll simply draft his replacement and use that money on defense is foolish. The team is already in the top 5 for cap space spent on defense with horrible results. Elite free agents are extremely rate. When you have an elite player in house, you absolutely pay him. Especially if it is their second contract.

The receivers on this team outside of Chase and Higgins are flat out garbage. So is the interior offensive line. And there's no long term solution at tight end. As bad as the defense is, the Bengals are going to have to use quite a bit of draft capital on the offense.

Most of these problems are a result of poor recent drafts. I'm not giving up a game changing WR who's not even in his prime to let the same people behind those poor draft picks likely make even more bad picks.

So, how many draft picks do you think they should use on offense? 3? 4?

Taking the best player available makes sense but only to a point. The defense is a much bigger need.

I'll try to get the Bengals talk back on the Bengals thread:

Obviously what they do in free agency influences this, but the overall roster is poor enough that they really should go BPA whenever possible. Looks like it will be a good year for defensive tackles, so ideally that would be their first round pick. But after that, take the best player because they'll compete for playing time no matter the position. Realistically, it is going to take more than one offseason cycle to fix the defense, and you are probably going to lose Trey H in 2026.

If I were in charge, I'd cut Rankins, Hubbard, Stone, and Cappa. I'd then throw the bag at Trey Smith to have an athletic right side of the line. They could get away with not having a true WR2 if they could consistently run the ball. But they aren't going to give Smith the type of contract structure a player of his caliber will demand, so it doesn't matter.

It's not like they had to make a decision regarding Burrow and Chase. It was either Burrow and Sewell (and Burrow would be hit a million times less than he has been had they done that, and it still may have been the right pick), or Burrow and Chase. Nobody should get any credit for this, except for those who should get credit for having such a crappy team that they get the overall #1 pick.

Despite the many TD's scored by BAL Thursday Night, the Bengals only have 6 missed tackles, total, over their last two games. The Defense is getting a lot better.
