IIRC, Fryman quit the team and went back to his farm in Kentucky. He and Sparky did not get along at all. Reds retained his rights and was traded to the Cubs in the off season for Bill Bonham.

That's how I remember it. He lived close enough to drive from home to the park during home games I think.
You would've thought playing for the Reds would've been a good setup.
He wasn't good at all in 77. But had some decent years before and after 77.
Sparky yanked pitchers around all the time. Billingham, Norman in particular. They would have a couple bad games in the rotation and off to the bullpen they would go. Same thing happened to Fryman. I don't know if that played a part in it or not.

Yea I don't think he liked going to the bullpen was his biggest gripe.

Here's the real game box score. Quite a wild game. This was before we started getting WTBS so it probably wasn't on TV. Pretty good your replay game matched the Reds score in this one.

I seem to remember that game being on tv. Probably Reds TV network. Since it was a road game and a Sunday. So it wouldn't have been on national TV for Saturday game of the week or Monday night baseball.
Reds TV network aired about 40 games per year all road games except opening day.
I remember the summers of 77 and 78 July and August it seemed to thunderstorm every evening in my area.
My favorite was the summer series in Chicago. Always day games always seemed to be weekdays.
I remember them because growing up when school was out during the week I always had to stay with my grandparents and would always watch those Cub games. Reds TV network always televised that entire series.
It was usually wild games. I don't think the wind effects Wrigley like it used to. It was more open then. Now it's surrounded by huge scoreboards and condos. I think they block the wind more on most days. Maybe I'm way off but there is some reason we don't see near as many 15-14 type games in Wrigley anymore.

I think part of the wind factor is that they mostly play night games now. I don't know about Chicago but in the places I have lived over the years the winds tend to die down after dark. Those wild 15-14 games were fun to watch. Every time a ball went into the air you thought it was a home run. But one thing I noticed after we started getting WGN and I could watch all of the Cubs games is that the wind didn't blow out all that much. Just a hand full of games a season. It seem to mostly blow in and it could be really difficult to hit one out through the wind that blew through Wrigley.
