    The positives: Ashcraft, Steer,

The negatives: Elly with 3 errors, getting shut down by Turnbull and Pinto

The Philadelphia Harpers beat us tonight but that's what a star player can do.

EDLC didn’t play well. Reds lost bc a HOF player had a career night. Get ‘em tomorrow.

On a positive note, Ashcraft pitched well, giving up only two earned runs in 6 innings. I think they should send Martinez to the bullpen when Lodolo returns. First time through the rotation, all starters pitched pretty well. Great sign!

Ashcraft pitched well. Gameday couldn't figure out what he was throwing but it was moving a lot. He avoided the "one inning" that has haunted him. I think he was about 8 "the innings" away from being a 2.85 ERA pitcher last year. Hopefully he builds on this and gets consistent.

No one offensively other than Steer played particularly well when it counted. A pitcher like Turnbull shouldn't have shut us down like that.

Why do modern managers abhor the IW? Just walk Harper. Why mess with it. Don’t understand this modern manager thing of not using that tool. Especially since the pitcher does not need to throw 4 balls to do it. Is this some analytics BS?

No interest in walking Harper in the 1st and 4rd innings when the bases are empty. You aren't walking him with the bases loaded when you're already down 3 either.

Harper had a great game, it happens when you're dealing with future HOFers.

Did you want to walk him twice with the bases empty and once with them loaded?

Looks like they removed the last error from Elly which I think is fair. Tough play. The glove flip was unfortunate but has nothing to do with laziness as some people here said. He simply rushed the play trying to turn 2 which was not going to happen with Rojas running. The first error could easily have gone to CES who has trouble catching the ball it seems. Frustrating game for sure but people need to get a grip. Young players make mistakes. It's a long season and the Reds are 3-2 to start. I'll take it.

In his first full season Barry Larkin was 23. This was 1987. His 2nd year first full season.
He had a .687 OPS. In his 2nd full season 3rd overall. Age 24 He was a all star with a .776 OPS he also committed a whopping 29 errors.

Elly is 22 years old. Boy if message boards and social media had been around Larkin would have took a beating.

In Barry's first full year (87) the Reds were in first place on 8/1 by two games over the Giants, who they played that night and lost. The Reds would go 8-19 that month, falling under .500 and into third place.

Larkin, in 102 PAs hit .240/.267/.281 that month. For the year he was second in the NL for E's by a SS, by one, in fewer games than the leader.

People were skeptical, but gave him rope, like they did Davey

Looks to be at least an 80% chance of rain all day in Philadelphia. Not sure if game 3 of this series will happen.

The Phillies game against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday has been pushed back from a scheduled 1:05 p.m. start to a 4:05 p.m. first pitch.
