Minor League Game Thread 4/12/24 FRIDAY

LOUISVILLE - Louisville is going double dipping today to make up for last night's rainout. Once again, today is the Silver Anniversary of Louisville Slugger Field. Louisville Riverbats will be required wearing. It will also be Margarita Madness Night - Margarita Cocktails and Frozen Margaritas will be quaffed early and often.

Lyon Richardson, stud-in-the-making, will throw one contest, while Randy Wynne, one-day-in-The-Show, will pitch the other.

CHATTANOOGA - You can't lose them all, can you? The Lookouts will trying to prove that postulate tonight versus the Birmingham Burgers. 1st 1,000 fans tonight will receive an
EPB Show Us Your Energy Rally Towels. EPB used to be the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga. My father once told me this, "Son, never trust an entity that changes their name. They wouldn't change it if the old name was working for them." My dad had words of wisdom on just about anything and everything. In my case, it skipped a generation.

It is taking awhile for the sticks to heat up in the Southern League. The league OPS is .611. One would think that SL pitching stats would be exemplary. So, that makes the Lookouts team ERA of 8.28 a headscratcher for sure. And, yet, Chattanooga hurlers have yet to be taken deep. They have, however, issued 28 free passes to opposing batsmen in 33.0 innings.

DAYTON - Good news for anyone who was itching to see Rhett Lowder in action. Dayton's game starts at 7:35 EDT tonight, and is the Free Game of the Day at Milb.com. Rhett will be on the mound for the Dragons. Dayton is 3 up and 3 down in the early 2024 going.

LOUISVILLE - Lyon is currently in anti-stud mode. 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 1 K. Riverbats trail 3-0. In Richardson's defense, there was a 90-minute delay, and it is very windy. Between the 2 pitchers, there have been 85 pitches in the contest, just 37 found the strike zone.

NOTE: Two walks and an Austin Wynns double has cut the deficit to 3-2.

If they would have held out Austin Wynns until the second game, it would have prodiuced a Wynne to Wynns battery.

Legumina is quite likely coming in to pitch the third.

A combined 103 pitches over the first 2 innings.

DAYTON - Rhett Lowder takes a 1-run lead out to the mound. A walk and hard-hit singles by Hector Rodriguez and Reuben Ibarra plate a run.

Lowder works 1-2-3 inning. 1 K. Quick worker, gets the ball and throws. Seems confident on the mound. Fastball sat 93-94, but he did dial it up to 96 once.

DAYTONA - Daytona is being blanked in the 6th 4-0.

Jose Montero hurled the first 4 innings, allowing a 3-run bomb in the 4th.
Gabriel Aguilera has gone the next 2 so far, being charged with an unearned run.
Betwixt the 2 Tortugas hurlers, they have fanned 8 so far in 6 innings.

Dominic Pitelli - who else? - has the only Daytona hit.

LOUISVILLE - Louisville and Columbus are crawling along. It is 4-4 through 4.

Casey Legumina allowed a run in his 2 innings.

Louisville tied the game in the bottom of the 4th with a pair of runs. Connor Capel led off the inning with a solo shot. That gives him 5 already here in the early going. Rece Hinds drew a free pass, and scooted up on an error on the pitcher. Austin Wynns lifted a sac fly, and there you go.

DAYTON - Lowder gives up a run in the second, but strikes out a pair. All 3 of his Ks have come on breaking pitches.

Ground single to right, slow-rolling fielder's choice and hard hit ground ball into the corner in right tallied the run.

A hit but a runner left on in the third against Lowder. He struck out 2 more, giving him 5 on the night. The last strike out came on a 97 MPH heater on the black.

DAYTON - A leadoff walk in the 4th against Rhett, but nothing else. 4 innings may be all for Lowder. A lefty was up in the Dragons pen, but now has sat back down.

Lowder sets them down in order in the 5th on just 5 pitches.

Daytona collected just 3 hits on the night. Ariel Almonte singled. Dominic Pitelli laced a pair of singles.

LOUISVILLE - Louisville comes up a run short in the opener tonight.

Lyon Richardson got roughed up in his 2 innings of work. After that, the pen was very good. Tony Santillan got an inning in, 2 Ks.
Legumina (1.23 ERA), Kriske (1.23 ERA), Santillan (1.59 ERA) and Alan Busenitz (2.84 ERA). Not bad at all.

Only 4 hits on the night for the Riverbats: Capel HR (5). Jordan SGL, BB. Hinds 2 BB. Wynns DBL, SF. Perez SGL.

DAYTON - Carlos Jorge triples to lead off the top of the 6th. And then K1, K2, K3. Leadoff triple wasted. Score tied at 1 as the game moves into the bottom half of the inning.

    Rhett Lowder is calling it a night. 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.

TJ Sikkema is on in relief and the first pitch he throws leaves the ballpark to right.. 2-1 Kernels.

CHATTANOOGA - Thomas Farr pitched well for 5 innings, but the bullpen is wobbling, allowing a run in the 6th, and another run in the 7th.

    Farr's line for the night: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K.

4 hits so far for the Lookouts. All singles. Miguel Hernandez, Jose Torres and Mat Nelson (2). Nelson has his average up to .364 to go along with an .897 OPS.

Maybe I missed it, but I thought I didn't see Blake Dunn in either of today's double-header.

Hope Dunn is OK. Can't find any news about him.

DAYTON - Trailing 3-2 heading into the 9th the O'Donnell-Stewart-Collier clicks once again. This time it came with 2 outs. Singles by O'Donnell and Stewart set the stage for Cam Collier's 3-run, go-ahead home run. This was Cam's 2nd home run of the season, and it lead to a 5-3 Dragons win.

Luis Mey shut things down in the bottom of the 9th for his 2nd save.

Ethan O'Donnell reached base 3 times on a single and 2 walks.
    Sal Stewart singled and walked.
Cam Collier homered (2) and walked.
Hector Rodriguez singled twice and doubled.
