Minor League Game Thread 4/13/24 SATURDAY

DAYTON - Dayton kicks off today's minor-league action for the Reds.

They jump out to a 1-0 lead in top of the first without the benefit of a hit. Leonardo Balcazar walked, stole 2nd and proceeded to 3rd on a throwing error. Ethan O'Donnell walked to put runners on the corners. Sal Stewart grounded into a double play with Balcazar scampering home.

Jarred Lyons has kept the Kernels off the board for 2 innings.

Dayton leads 1-0 going into the 3rd.

CHATTANOOGA - The Lookouts will have 2 opportunities to get off the victory schneid this afternoon. Chattanooga has dropped their 1st 5 contests here in 2024. They will be hosting Birmingham. 1st pitch will be at 5:15 EDT.

DAYTONA - The schedule has the Tortugas visiting Palm Beach. A win today puts Daytona at .500. Action begins at 6:35 EDT.

LOUISVILLE - The 6-7 Bats are entertaining the Clippers of Columbus today. Tyler Gilbert has the ball for the Bats. He has been struggling mightily this season. Across 2.2 innings he has allowed 10 hits, while striking out just one batter. Opponents are hitting .625 against Gilbert, which pretty much explains his 27.00 ERA.

DAYTON - A walk to Logan Tanner and a single off of the bat of Jose Serrano has placed runners at 1st and 3rd with nobody gone. It has also chased the Cedar Rapids hurler. Serrano is making his 1st appearance here this year. A wild pitch has now upped the Dragons lead to 2-0. Nothing more for the Dragons in the 3rd.

Cam Collier has the day off.

If Cam Collier can take a LEAP this year and get to AA with helium at age 19, on top of Lowder being in the system and shoving and adding a #2 overall pick, well, without even looking at the rest of the system, that would just be the bees knees...
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

DAYTON - Jerrad Lyons was rock solid for 4 innings, before the floodgates open up for the Kernels in the 5th. They score 4 times to take a 5-2 lead. Tanner Cooper came on in the 5th, and eventually got out of the inning. He allowed an inherited runner to score, as well as one of his own.

Singles by Sal Stewart and Hector Rodriguez has gotten back one of those runs. It's now 5-3, with the game going into the bottom of the 6th.

In most professions, if you are taking a LEAP, that is a good thing. If someone tells you to take a FLYING LEAP, however, that is normally a bad thing.

DAYTONA - Daytona is leading 2-0 in the 6th.

Adam Serwinowski made his 2nd start of the season, and it was, once again, exemplary. 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. For the season, the 19-year-old lefthander has allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. He has struck out 12.
Anyer Laureano has taken control of the mound, and has pitched 2 shutout frames.

Carlos Sanchez has singled and walked.
Connor Burns has doubled, while Jack Moss has tripled.

    Daytona is up 2-0.

Chattanooga GM-1 - Chattanooga snaps that 5-game losing streak by walking off Birmingham 3-2.

Sam Benschoter was in control the 1st 5 innings. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk, fanning 5. Unfortunately, both hits and the lone walk came in the same frame leading to 2 runs.
Jacob Heatherly worked a hitless 2 innings. He walked 1 and punched out 4 batters to garner the win.

Tyler Callihan singled and scored a run.
Mat Nelson doubled, walked and drove in a run.
    Austin Callahan homered (1).
    Eric Yang walked twice.

The winning run came home on a walk and a throwing error on a sac bunt. The Lookouts will take it.

CHATTANOOGA GM-2 - The Lookouts are looking for a sweep of today's doubleheader.

LOUISVILLE - It looks as if Tyler Gilbert brought his A game to the park. 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER. 0 BB, 5 K. Yosver Zulueta has held Columbus in check in the 5th.

Levi Jordan has a 3-bagger, and come home.
Connor Capel has doubled and scored a run.

Louisville leads in the bottom of the 5th, 2-1.

Re: Minor League Game Thread 4/13/24 SATURDAY

Adam Serwinowski is a left-handed pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds organization. Let’s dive into his scouting profile:

    Position: Left-handed pitcher
    Height: 6’ 5"
    Weight: 191 lbs
    Born: June 7, 2004
    Scouting Report:

Fastball: His fastball operates in the mid-90s and occasionally touches higher speeds.
Curveball: An above-average offering with two-plane movement.
    Change-Up: Unfortunately, his change-up is a well below-average pitch.
While Serwinowski shows potential with his fastball and curveball, his ability to consistently throw strikes remains a question mark. In the 2023 season, he walked 15% of the hitters he faced, which could impact his future as a starter or reliable reliever1

In the early portion of the season, he's one of three or four guys (with Collier, Maxwell, and Lowder, IMO) who've already shown some interesting and positive traits and could be in line for early-season promotions. Hector Rodriguez and Sal Stewart look like they're going to be for real in Dayton too.

Do you think they'll promote Collier early? I assumed we'd see him in Dayton for at least half of the season. Love what we're seeing so far this season but I'd like to see him drawing more walks (only 1 in 31 PAs so far).

I agree that Lowder will be aggressively moved. He should be in AA now and likely only needs 10 or so starts there.
