Part 2? We got ANOTHER Elly de la Cruz?!? Amazing!

Of course, relooking at the thread title, it seems like we're talking about Dr. La Cruz. New team doctor?

I thought the double-play pick was a much more difficult play to accomplish. I don't think any other person in the league could have done it, but then again, perhaps no other could have done this one, too.

As for the person saying Elly was going to get 600 Million. I'd think not. Ohtani got 700 million due to being a unicorn Pitcher/DH (they don't need him to play OF) that has way more total impact than any position player can have. So we can pump the brakes on anyone approaching that deal for a few years.

Is there a Statcast analysis of that catch that we might see?

It would seem to be a prime example of the type of play that makes De La Cruz a viable defender at SS.

(The double play was also a very good play, though, again, I'd like to see the Statcast on it.)

I think Bobby Whitt Jr. will be the comp they want to beat. That deal is 7/150 before players options kick in(4 years at 35 mil each) then another 3 years of team options at around 30 each. So it could be as much as 14/388.

Just stating the obvious, but the big change this season seems to be Elly’s improved pitch recognition. He is laying off the breaking balls off the plate, which leads to either a walk, or more fastballs he can crush.

Earlier, he seemed to be down 0-2 in most at bats. Now, he’s up 2-0 in most at bats.

The fact that he's top 20 in the league in walks proves to me he's made the needed adjustments. I'm glad he's on my favorite team

I got made fun of for this stance, but I think Elly should turn that offer down right now. I don’t think that he should lock himself in for 14 years. That would be the only big contract he signs.

If he splits that his half, to say an 8 year, $180M deal, he’d still hit free agency around 30, poised for a mega deal at what the market pays then, which likely would be more than $30M a year for a star player.

Of course, I hope he signs a 20 year deal with the Reds. I want to seem him in Reds uniform for as long as possible.

Whitt Jr. can opt out at age 30 of his deal. An 8 year deal as you said takes Elly to the same age before hitting FA. The Reds should have been proactive about locking him up before this though we have no way of knowing if they tried or not.
