Re: Reds Top Prospects - May 2024 Edition

Is Connor Phillips injured? He's dropped off in just about every statistical category possible this year. .301 average against, high walk rate, 9 hrs in 41 innings and so on. A few bad starts is one thing but he's really only had one good one and that was the first game of the year for him. 5 starts with 3 or less runs but all of those except 1 were in less than 4 innings.

    Starting again tonight.

I was noticing Lowder and Petty's numbers at Chattanooga. Their k/bb/hr numbers look fine, but the hits allowed are high. Is this a reflection on them, or just an indication that the Lookouts defenders aren't very good?
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I think the Reds should've signed a vet minor leaguer or two to fill out that AA a team. It's obvious none of those position players are real prospects. Maybe Allen and Stewart get moved up soon.

Arroyo's injury impacted that team quite a bit.

That said, AA is bereft of offensive talent. I'm not sure if any of those guys will make it (back) to Cincinnati-- and that's exceedingly rare for a AA team.

    FWIW.

"Lowder ripped through High A but has hit some trouble in Double A, with a bizarre .500 BABIP at the level through 15 innings. It’s a combination of bad luck and some bad location, as Lowder’s living too much in the heart of the zone with his fastball, which means it’s harder for him to get to his plus slider and changeup for whiffs. I’m still bullish, but that’s a clear adjustment he’ll have to make at the new level."

Zach Maxwell wasn't mentioned. Understandable, he's a reliever. But he'll be a big part of the Reds bullpen later this year.

Re: Reds Top Prospects - May 2024 Edition

Out here in AZ I've seen 5 AZ Reds games so far and Lin was in 4 of them. He appears to be the real deal. He's very disciplined at the plate and has played everywhere from SS to 3B to CF. Henley has also looked very mature and good as well.

Stafura tore through AZ and got to Daytona and had a little adjustment in the first few games but is now on fire again.

Add in Cabrera in A, and Stewart, Hernandez and Allen II in high A and our low minors is looking really good. Gotta get Collier, Balcazar and Jorge going now. Collier and Jorge have had a rough few weeks in a row. Balcazar is showing some signs of putting it together after coming back from a knee injury last year.

In AA Pitelli is looking pretty good as a sleeper as well. Yet another SS.

Lot's too look forward to and maybe we can rebuild the Lookouts who are truly awful offensively by mid year.

Lowder was sharp today. Over 5 he gave up 3 hits (one infield) with 1K and 1BB. Not getting much swing and miss but mostly soft contact and grounders.

This is his second start in a row against the Trash Pandas.

Phillips OTOH got blown up again. 3.1 innings today on 94 pitches. 9 ER's, 11 hits, 2BB and 3K's He gave up 2 doubles, a triple and 3 hrs. The singles were smoked as well.

    9.4 pitches per out! Yikes.

Maybe... the drop off is dramatic for sure. I'm wondering if he's pitching through some sort of injury.

There has to be something physically or mechanically wrong with Phillips, and the fact that they haven't figured it out yet is concerning. Either a lack of coaching or a lack of coachability on the players part. It's obvious he has the arm talent.

Noelvi Marte is back in Louisville, doubled in his first game back.
