    Let's hope there isn't a part 3.

    Mark Sheldon
    @m_sheldon
    Manager David Bell fielded questions today about statuses of Encarnacion-Strand and Williamson. Both have been considering options that include season ending surgeries.

    CES has ligament damage with his fractured hand. Williamson has a lesion in his shoulder.
    Wasn't CES just cleared to begin ramping up before he asked for a second (or third) opinion?

    Hopefully they do the surgeries soon. I don't see either one making an impact this season.

    Yeah, the sooner they have the surgery the sooner they can come back.

    More from Goldsmith on CES

    David Bell said there was ligament damage along with Christian Encarnacion-Strand’s wrist injury. He’s seeing a specialist before making a decision. “Surgery is an option,” Bell said. “We’re hopeful he can start progressing. If that’s what he and the specialist decide.”

    I wrote him off about a month ago so no homework for me.

    The bigger news is about Williamson, imo. That sounds career threatening.

    Anytime you see that a pitcher has a shoulder injury this should be your first thought. Hopefully he makes it through.

    Shoulder lesions can occur due to trauma, repetitive motion, overuse, or degenerative processes. Common types of shoulder lesions include rotator cuff tears, labral tears, bursitis, tendinitis, and osteoarthritis.

    So yep

    I'm usually quick to defend the team doctors but this CES thing is a real head scratcher. Did they only do x-rays, found a fracture and called it a day and never looked at ligaments? This just seems like a really big miss to me

    Good thing CES got that 2nd opinion, for his sake. Unbelievable

    The medical staff the Reds employ seem to miss a lot of things, and are only interested in getting players back to the field as quickly as possible. That could be a competency issue, or it could be by design by the owners who don't want to pay major league players to sit on the IL.
