I am not saying you're wrong to be...but this is kinda my point. I'm as critical as some here, but I guess I just haven't quite turned the corner into cynicism that a few loud voices here have. My point is that at this point, I don't think any level of success short of a dynasty would actually make some here not be miserable and it just gets old, ad nauseum. And it's why a number of quality folks who used to frequent here don't anymore. Hell, it'll getting to that point for me too and that's just a shame. But welcome to 2024, eh? #sadshrug

One playoff appearance in the past decade where they went 0-2 scoring 0 runs, but it's the fans fault for not being more optimistic. This year will be 8 seasons out of the past 10 full years with less than 80 wins. They haven't finished higher than third in the division since 2012. Gee I wonder why some people are getting impatient. Most of us would settle for a run of competence at the level of the 2010-2013 run where you could at least squint and see the team making a post season run.

That's not what I said. But thank you for being the EXACT issue here. Impaitent? Frustrated? Skeptical? All valid and, honestly, how we all should be feeling. But some take it from there and go about 35 miles past those things. For example, many said the Reds would not do diddly-squat in FA last off-season. The bemoaned the fact over and over. Then the Reds went out and spent approximately $100M in FA. Sure, not all of that was well spent money. And absolutely bemoan and discuss and rail against that. All valid. Hell, I was pissed at some of the 'wasted' money. But the fact is, they DID spend. And YET AND YET...the same loud folks who were adamant the Reds wouldn't spend just moved the goal posts. Like...what are we even doing here? But it's the internet and no one ever loses an argument and either strawmans it up or moves goal posts and it just makes Redszone worse every year. Am I pissing into the wind here? Yup, nothing is going to change here, but maybe it makes one of y'all chill and stop moving said goalposts...? #shrug.

Reds' Hunter Greene: Cleared to return Sunday
Hunter Greene (elbow) will rejoin the Reds' rotation Sunday versus the Pirates, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Greene will be on a limited pitch count after throwing a 52-pitch simulated game Tuesday. As long as he comes out of Sunday's outing with no problems, he'll be lined up to make one last start during the final weekend of the regular season in Chicago against the Cubs. Greene has been sidelined since mid-August with right elbow inflammation.

    I don’t. I think it’s a situation calling for extra caution.
Was he medically cleared to pitch?

I assume so. But medical clearance shouldn’t replace the exercise of caution and judgment.

He gets medically cleared. Pitches very well then as soon as he gets stretched out a little his elbow goes. He was going to have this happen to him next year. It was just a question of when. He chose to try it without surgery and it didn’t work out.

Pretty much this. And probably better to happen sooner rather than later so he can get the surgery out of the way.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

The human body is weird, high level sports is hard, judging what happened from behind a keyboard regarding the combination of the two is an easy and effortless task, untethered to any reality other than the result of an action.

If Williamson inevitably needed surgery why did they all waste 2024 with rest and rehab?

Seems to me a rest and rehab approach would have benefited from a winter of more rest and rehab.

Maybe there was no way of knowing t was inevitable? I don't know, and if there was no evidence of it you can't assume it was going to happen. It did, and if so then probably just as well it happened now instead of next April because now they can plan for not having him.

So you’re saying Reds and Wmson guessed wrong with rest and rehab. And it’s good they found out before more wasted time. I don’t give them kudos for that, the guy will now miss two seasons.

To me, the entire point of rest and rehab is to allow enough time. They had a full off-season upcoming and could have allowed more time. But they decided to test it in September and we are where we are.

Doesn’t add up to a well-executed plan IMO. He’s a BOR starter, not the end of the world, but I don’t see this recent discovery as anything warranting congrats.

No, it was more of all the information they had said he was ready to go, and they did start out with lower pitch volume to help build him up. WHich probably isn't that much different than what he would have been doing in rehab. It just happened to occur during a game.
