Yeah I wouldn't care about losing any of those players mentioned.
But if Robert has 3 years left. You might get a season and a half total of games played. He is always hurt.

The proposed move: Reds trade 3B Cam Collier, RHP Lyon Richardson, RHP Chase Petty and OF Will Benson to White Sox for CF Luis Robert Jr.

The Reds need to improve their offense and could receive a boost on that front when Noelvi Marte returns from his 80-game PED suspension; the 22-year-old will be eligible to rejoin the big-league club later this week. However, that addition probably wonít be enough considering second baseman Matt McLain and first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand remain on the IL. Therefore, entering the trade market makes sense for the Reds and landing a power bat like Robert from Chicago makes sense too, since he also brings base-stealing speed and above-average defense to fortify their center field position. Robert, 26, belted 38 home runs last year and stole 20 bases in 24 attempts. This year, heís been limited to just 24 games due to injury and has struggled, slashing .191/.265/.472 with seven home runs and 36 strikeouts in 89 at-bats. Heís under team control through 2027 with salaries of $12.5 million this year, $15 million next year and club options at $20 million a year for 2026 and 2027.

In return, the White Sox would receive two former Reds first-round picks, Collier and Petty, who are ranked fourth and sixth, respectively, among their top prospects by MLB Pipeline, along with Richardson, who ranks 14th and is pitching at Triple A, and Benson, who has struggled this year but last year had an .863 OPS in 287 at-bats.
I would do this. Iíve been advocating making a move for Robert for the last six months, and I was DYING for the Reds to sign him as an amateur free agent.

I like Collier and Petty (and Benson) but you have to give something to get something of value. Of course Iíd rather trade Fraley/Hinds instead of Benson/Collier and Aguiar or Phillips over Petty but doubt the Sox would go for that.

Arozorena would be my target. I'd offer the Rays quite a bit for him.

    He's controlled through 2027.

I'd offer the same package proposed for Robert for Arozarena. I'd prefer Arozerena to be honest.

I think both guys are worth pursuing. Robert has an additional year of control with MVP upside. Arozarena is a tank of a player and would rake in GAB.

Arozarena should come a bit cheaper, so that proposal (Collier/Petty/Richardson) sounds like a realistic return for him and I'd pull the trigger yesterday on it.

I honestly would not trade Collier. Watching his AB's he reminds me alot of Devers on the Red Sox..

    MLB Trade Deadline

I definitely prefer Arozarena over Robert, for the fact Robert seems to be always getting hurt. We already have plenty of guys who spend a lot of time on IL.

Collier strikes out a lot. Don't get me wrong he's still only 19 and there's a lot to dream on there but he was at a 22.9% K rate last year in A ball and is at a 26.5% rate this year in A+. Devers turned in 16.5%, 16.5%, and 18.5% rates at ages 17-19.

I like Collier but would have no issue at all if another team valued him enough to make him a primary piece of a big trade.

Games played by Roberts the past 4 years. Considering what the White Sox will want for him, and considering how he will make $15, $20,$20mm the next 3 years. That's a lot of prospect capital and $$'s to pay for a dude who plays on average half a season.

Not worth the risk. If he was making $5mm a year, then maybe, but imagine paying someone $20mm a year to play half the season. The Reds will look for a better opportunity in the trade market in the offseason. The Reds as of today need to go 47-36 to hit 84 wins. Historically speaking, 84 is the low end of what you need for the 3rd and final playoff spot. Maybe if you are lucky 82/83 get it done, maybe it's 85. But 84 needs to be the target. You can't just hope that 81 wins is good enough for the final spot this year-- it could be, but you really need to aim for 84.

    Re: MLB Trade Deadline

Both Arozarena and Roberts are roughly 3 win players who are having down years. Both are basically replacement level players so far this season.

There is no way they will yield anything close to what is being discussed in this thread in a trade. They might be worth it, because of the years of team control each has, but no team is going to give up that much on the hope that either of them turns things around and becomes an impact player again this year. Helping their team this year will be the primary focus of any the acquiring team.

A package like that would only be offered for a player who the new team is confident will help them get into the playoffs.

Yeah it doesn't look like Krall is going to be paying the deadline tax for any big additions to me. With TJ and Lodolo hitting the IL the writing is on the wall for the 2024 season. I think Robert Jr. will probably be like Cease and get moved in the off season because teams won't meet the asking price mid year.

JimBo article on players most likely to be dealt:

I surveyed more than 35 executives — including presidents of baseball operations, general managers and assistant GMs — and asked them to name the best starting pitcher, reliever and position player they think will be traded.

The execs were granted anonymity so they could answer candidly. Their responses were illuminating — and in some cases surprising.

Here are the starters, relievers and hitters who were mentioned the most, the players the execs felt are most likely to be dealt at the trade deadline, along with my thoughts on them.
ďThe guys we've had for the most part have been serviceable at this level.Ē

Jazz Chisholm would be a fascinating guy to pair with EDLC (not to mention Friedl and McLain) at the top of the order. His CF defense would allow Friedl to cover LF and switch Steer to RF (which seems easier in the GABP due to the sun). It'd take Lowder or Petty, Collier, and more, though. Not sure that juice is worth the squeeze. I love the speed and 30/30 possibilities, but the cost seems to high for what he's likely to provide.

Taylor Ward might be a cheaper (and better) play. He's decent in LF and should hit 20+ HR. He hits LHP very well, but isn't a slouch against RH either. Solid guy. Best of all, he's not likely to break the bank. That said, Id argue the Reds need more than just Taylor Ward to fix this flailing offense.

Randy Arozarena is still the guy I'd most want.
