Defense will likely struggle and base running will do dumb stuff…just find a way to win

    Being aggressive involves taking chances.

Taking chances includes the possibility of making outs.

When being aggressive works everyone considers a great play.

When being aggressive cost an out some call it a stupid play.

We can't have it both ways

IMHO there’s ways to be intelligently aggressive.

Lodolo, Greene and Abbott have been too good for this team to be a bottom 10 team in MLB

Aggressive is more “take the extra base on a batted ball”

Stealing bases is always strategic. Who is up? How many outs? Pitcher’s move? Catcher’s talent? Covering fielders positioning. Maybe most important…what’s the count? From Elly to Stephenson must consider every time.

Elly has to know….every single time the pitcher and the catcher are ready for him to steal every single pitch. Logical off speed counts and make sure the pitcher is going home. Bad read, don’t go. I don’t think the 2 outs at home were aggressive, I think they were bad reads, there’s a difference.

Some love to blame House at 3rd. Are our runners checking things every pitch? Fielder locations? Batter tendencies? Likely pitch or location?

I’m good with being aggressive (especially knowing we don’t hit to keep the line moving” but I do not believe our runners are as focused on all of the factors that they should be.

I agree but even doing these things like
always being strategic. Who is up? How many outs? Pitcher’s move? Catcher’s talent? Covering fielders positioning. Maybe most important…what’s the count? From Elly to Stephenson must consider every time.

But there's still a chance of being thrown out or picked off. And as soon as that happens some will complain about it being a stupid play just because the other team made a good play.

Yes I believe the 2 outs at home were bad reads.

I was going to add that in my post about “still might get thrown out”

If it’s a game where we just can’t score or there are two outs….as soon as Elly reaches 1st I post “steal” I want him to go (if he gets a decent read and jump)…I don’t know that he has been thrown out when going on 1st pitch to second. That sets a tone…it pressures the defense….with less than 2 outs it worries them he’s going to 3rd = cream puff pitch because worried about runner.

When he struggles to read a good pickoff move or a lefty, in those cases he needs to be more cautious but more ready on the 0-1, 0-2, 1-2 pitches. He’s not getting thrown out on a curve, change up, sweeper, slider

You can't teach baseball IQ. Someone has it or they don't.

We need smarter players. It is what it is with the group we have. They can't get out of their own way.

We're probably looking at next year just to make the playoffs as today we have to field another lineup with three hurt players just to be competitive.

Our LH platoon players have been a complete disaster from Day 1. All of them. That's like six guys. Crazy that we couldn't get some good production out of just one of them.

Win today. Win the series. Build some confidence. Move forward to the next game.

Tough job for Bell this season.

That's a huge improvement. They had been 0-8, so they've gone 1-1 since. Let's make that 2-1 and start building some confidence.

    We should score 5 today.

Can we continue to get the great pitching and give up 4 or less again?
